BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce spokesman Yao Jian said Friday the U.S. decision to impose preliminary duties on Chinese potassium phosphate salts and coated paper was unfair and discriminatory.Yao said "frequent" countervailing probes by the U.S. into Chinese products have "unfairly restricted normal exports," adding the fresh anti-dumping measures came only two years after the U.S. ruled China's coated paper exports did not harm the domestic industry in November 2007.The two products will face 109 percent and up to 13 percent duties, respectively, according to a U.S. Commerce Department statement Tuesday.Yao said the fundamental reason behind the difficulties in the U.S. coated paper industry was due to weak demand caused by the financial crisis. He said passing the problem on to Chinese manufacturers was unacceptable.He said China firmly opposes abuse of trade protectionist measures by the U.S. and would negotiate with the U.S. over the unfair move to protect the interests of Chinese companies.

JINAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese vocational school said Monday it has got bored with the repeated reports carried by the New York Times insisting that it was a source of the Google cyber attacks."The reports are too boring, simply unfounded and politically orientated," Li Zixiang, Party chief of the privately-run Lanxiang Vocational School (Lanxiang) in east China's Shandong Province, told Xinhua."We really do not want to read such reports again. If the reporter still has doubts, I invite him to come to our school to talk with us personally," he said.The New York Times has filed two reports recently claiming the cyber attacks on Google and other American firms last year have been traced to Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) and Lanxiang.Google said last month that it might pull out of the Chinese market, citing it services had been hacked by sources originating in China and that it disagreed with some Chinese government policies.In the latest report, the New York Times insisted that Lanxiang had ties with the Chinese military as it was founded on land donated by the army and had sent graduates to join the army."We had indeed used abandoned barracks for teaching venues when our school was founded in 1984, but the barracks were not a 'donation' because we must pay rent regularly for it," Li said."We have already moved out of the old barracks and built our own new teaching buildings," he said.Currently, Lanxiang has more than 20,000 students learning vocational skills such as cooking, auto repair and hairdressing."Like any other country, our school graduates can join the army if they so wish. NICOSIA, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi expressed his solemn position on the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan here Saturday, urging the U.S. to stop selling weapons to the Chinese province.Yang, who is paying an official visit to Cyprus, said in disregard of strong opposition and repeated protest from China, the U.S. administration flagrantly announced its plan to sell the weapons to Taiwan worth about 6.4 billion dollars.Such a move is gravely against the three joint communiques between China and the United States, especially the "Aug. 17" communique, Yang said, adding that it constitutes crude interference in China's internal affairs, and harms China's national security and peaceful reunification efforts.China firmly opposes such a move which runs counter to the U.S. commitment to support the peaceful growth of the cross-Strait relations, he said.The Chinese foreign minister urged the U.S. side to adopt a serious attitude towards the Chinese position, earnestly respect China's core interests and major concerns, revoke immediately the erroneous decision on the arms sales to Taiwan and stop selling weapons so as not to undermine the China-U.S. relations.Yang Jiechi said China has repeatedly stated its position on the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.
