SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With school back in session, bullying is a concern for parents and kids. According to a new survey from Boy Scouts of America, bullying took the top spot as the number one concern for Generation Z. “Verbal bullying and cyberbullying are our big problems,” said 14-year-old Katrina Gusman. Gusman has been focusing her time on improving her community and the lives of her peers. “We volunteered for a few hours; it was a really fun experience,” said Gusman. A recent survey by Boy Scouts of America shows 32 percent of kids from 6 to 17 years old believe bullying is the biggest issue in our country. 30 percent of kids say they want to combat bullying globally. In California, the homeless crisis is also taking a toll on Generation Z. According to the survey, 29 percent of kids in California believe homelessness is the biggest issue in our state. “There are people who might be sleeping in other people's houses or with their grandparents because their parents can't find jobs,” said Gusman. It may be due to the prevalent homelessness in California. The White House Council of Economic Advisers found 47 percent of all unsheltered homeless people nationwide live in California. Gusman believes giving back is the first step. She hopes other people will step in to help change the landscape long-term. “I think raising awareness – if more people are aware then we can try to get solutions,” said Gusman 1436

Zhivargo Laing has lived in the Bahamas all of his life. “I grew up on Grand Bahama,” says the Freeport, Bahamas resident. Just a week ago, Hurricane Dorian made landfall as a Category 5 storm, flattening homes on the islands. “This level of damage to all of these structures, we have not seen before,” Laing says.Laing and his nephew, Ellison Laing, are still dealing with the devastation the hurricane left behind.“The water came to our waist, inside the house,” describes Ellison Laing.More than 4,800 people have been evacuated, and more people are waiting to be evacuated. Shelters are over max capacity. One woman in the shelter is not only grieving the loss of her home, but her loved ones as well.“I had three people pass in my family: my brother and my mom and my [cousin],” she says.Fifty people have been confirmed dead following the hurricane. Workers removing shelves and coolers from a former No Frills Supermarket in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in January discovered a body behind one of them.The remains were recently identified as those of Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada, a former employee who had been reported missing November 28, 2009.Investigators used his parents' DNA to confirm the identity, and the clothes matched the description of his attire at the time he was reported missing, according to Council Bluffs Police Capt. Todd Weddum.Murillo-Moncada's parents reported their son missing after he became upset and ran out of their home. They told police at the time that he was acting irrationally, possibly because of medication he was taking, Weddum said.Officers contacted family members, other law enforcement agencies, nearby detention centers and even the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency -- he had been deported to Honduras before making his way back to the United States -- but received no information regarding his possible whereabouts.Investigators now believe that Murillo-Moncada went to the supermarket and climbed on top of the coolers. The space was used as storage for merchandise, Weddum said, and employees would sometimes go there to hide when they wanted to take an unofficial break.He is thought to have fallen into the 18-inch gap between the back of the cooler and a wall, where he became trapped.
