SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Eight San Diego County gyms have filed a lawsuit against state and county leaders over the public health orders due to the coronavirus pandemic.The gym owners say that restrictions on their business by California and the county have caused, "difficulty in satisfying their financial obligations, having been forced to lay off a significant number of employees" and they have "expended large sums of money in an effort to comply with Defendants’ vague orders."Gym owners say they have lost tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars, in some cases, retrofitting their businesses to be compliant with reopening measures.The Plaintiffs include Metroflex Gym in Oceanside, Ramona Fitness Center in Ramona, Boulevard Fitness in University Heights, Deadweight Strength in Grantville, Convoy Strength in Kearny Mesa, IB Fitness in Imperial Beach, and Being Fit in both Clairemont and Mira Mesa.The owners added that they have sought clarification of the orders and how they're enforced by law enforcement and the county, but have not received any clarification from officials.The lawsuit claims that public health orders labeling their businesses as nonessential without allowing them to challenge it, and mandatory closures, are not constitutional.Defendants include Gov. Gavin Newsom, all five San Diego County supervisors, and the mayors of each city where the gyms are located. If the county thinks you're owed a refund, you may receive a postcard in the mail, according to San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister.“Most of the time, we’re collecting money from San Diegans,” said McAllister. “We love summer when we can give it back and put a little extra vacation cash in people’s pockets. Some workers at the Claude "Bud" Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant are going above and beyond to make sure our drinking water is safe from the coronavirus. When we think of heroes during this coronavirus pandemic, we immediately think of medical staff, grocery workers, and delivery people. But remember to thank those who continue to provide water. "The plant cannot run without these operators," Jessica Jones, communications director at the desalination plant said. They have been living at the Carlsbad Desalination Plant since last Thursday. For 21 days, they will be on 12-hour shifts and sleeping in their RV's parked inside the facility."Being completely locked down is the only way we can ensure that these operators remain healthy," Jones said.Having no human contact with the outside world, these quarantined employees will get food delivered to them at the gate. "All treatment plants have multiple processes that will either kill or inactivate bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants in the water," Jim Fisher, director of operations and maintenance at the San Diego County Water Authority, said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flames shot out a window of a Spring Valley apartment that caught fire Thursday morning.The fire broke out at the home in the 10,000 block of Austin Drive about 10 a.m.No one was injured but the family who lives there says their cat died in the fire."I heard the beep beep beep and ran up the stairs," said Jacquline Amey, "I looked in the other room it was all smoky - opened the closet and it was engulfed in flames."San Miguel, Heartland, La Mesa firefighters and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department assisted in the emergency.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  636
