A woman in Oklahoma is warning people to stay home and isolate if they feel sick, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test. "Don't trust a negative COVID test. If you have the symptoms, especially that loss of taste and smell, you have to stay home,” Lesley Shollmier told local media.Shollmier should know, she had three negative tests before a fourth one came back positive.A few days before Thanksgiving, she started feeling sick, so she took a PCR test and it came back negative. Then a day or two later, she felt more sick and fatigued, and had a rapid COVID-19 test to be sure she was negative before spending Thanksgiving with family. That test also came back negative.Her and her husband had a small Thanksgiving with her mother, brother and sister-in-law.The day after Thanksgiving, Shollmier tells CNN she made a cup of tea and slice of pumpkin pie, when she realized she couldn’t taste or smell."I immediately knew, this is COVID. I just knew that that was one of the classic symptoms and regardless of anything, I have to have it. As odd as it sounds, I was fortunate to have that symptom so that I knew for sure that I was doing the right thing,” Shollmier told KTUL.She went to a different testing site and took a PCR test. The next day, those results came back negative.Her symptoms got worse, congestion moved into her chest, so she self-quarantined in her home keeping away from her husband on the second floor.She took another PCR test for COVID-19 on November 30, and again, results came back negative.She continued to isolate as symptoms got worse, now including back aches, shortness of breath, congestion and fatigue."I just assumed 100% I had COVID-19 and the last thing I wanted to do was infect someone,” Shollmier said.On December 2, she reached out to her doctor and asked to take a fourth PCR test.Finally, after having symptoms for 12 days, Shollmier finally had a positive COVID-19 test result.The FDA says molecular tests, like the PCR test, look for the virus’ genetic material and most are done with nasal swabs or throat swabs, and are typically highly accurate.Health experts agree with Shollmier’s decision to isolate even without a positive test result. A study published in August showed that people who took a test on the day they started showing symptoms had a false-negative rate of 38%. Even three days later, those who had COVID-19 with symptoms still had a false-negative test rate of 20%.After Thanksgiving, the White House coronavirus task force urged Americans who traveled for the holiday to assume they were likely infected and to isolate on their own. Shollmier is sharing her story as a warning to others."Listen to your gut. Know when you're sick and when you need to stay home. And just because you get that negative test doesn't mean that you're negative,” Shollmier told KTUL.She is still dealing with lingering symptoms. She tells CNN her family has been tested twice so far, and no one has symptoms or has tested positive. 2989

They say those were big factors in moving out of the big city.“We wanted to have an opportunity to spend more time with them and we wanted to make the right steps to watch them the best life they could,” Sanchez said.Now more people are looking to do what the Sanchez family did -- leave the big city for a smaller suburb.“It’s not surprising given the pandemic we are experiencing,” said Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Association of Realtors.He says due in part to the COVID-19 crisis and more companies allowing employees to work from home, there’s an exodus from downtown areas across the country.“People will say, ‘Why am I living so close job center when I can have perhaps a better affordability -- housing affordability out in the suburbs,” Yun said.According to a recent Harris Poll survey, nearly one-third of Americans are considering moving to a less densely populated area because of the coronavirus outbreak.Yun says this could impact the real estate market.“Before the pandemic, there was a housing shortage,” he said. “We knew that homebuilders needed to build significantly more to fully satisfy the demand.”Looking to help to meet that demand is housing developer Brain Levitt.“People are coming to Colorado because of lifestyle choice,” he said.Levitt is the president of Nava Real Estate Development. His company recently finished a 196-unit development called Lakehouse area outside of downtown Denver.He says a third of buyers are from out of the of area.“What we are finding, just because the cost of living or maybe new job opportunities or even just the lifestyle -- getting out of the city and getting to a place where you can work and play, it just seems like it’s attracting a lot of people,” Levitt said.That attraction of living away from a big city, however, does come at a cost.“It really required me to check my entitlements,” Sanchez said.Back in Hawaii, Sanchez said his family did have to give up several amenities when moving out of a big city.In the end, however, it was well worth it.“My kids are safe,” Sanchez said. “And you can’t put a price tag on that.” 2501

(KGTV) - An Alpine woman who tested positive for COVID-19 says her quarantine turned into a nightmare as a postal carrier delivered a package.This past weekend, Tamica got a COVID test after three co-workers tested positive. She also tested positive and remains asymptomatic."Since I got that Sunday, I've been quarantining at home," said Tamica.On Tuesday, past 1 p.m., as the mail truck pulled up to her apartment off Tavern Road, her two 80-lb. dogs ran to the front door and started barking. She says the door was open but the screen door was shut, as the postal carrier stood outside, at the door, with something in his hand."They were instantly pawing at their face and backed up, and acting weird ... jumping up and down and making a whining noise," said Tamica.Tamica believes the postal carrier had used his pepper spray. At that point, Tamica says the dogs jumped on the door and pushed it open. They ran out, and she ran after them. Tamica says the letter carrier sprayed toward one dog as it ran off, before turning to her other dog."I just jumped in front of my dog. He's wasn't doing anything. He wasn't barking. He was just sitting there .... He's a golden retriever and very friendly ... The postal carrier is spraying us, yelling and just spraying wildly," Tamica said.Tamica says that went on for about a minute, and it seemed liked forever."I was mad, scared, ready to cry … yelling at him to stop, stop, stop!" said Tamica.She says he finally did. Her dogs' eyes were left shut and stinging for hours. Her eyes were also ripe with pain. Tamica filed a complaint with the Postal Service."It's outrageous. This was not warranted at all," said Tamica.A different version of events has emerged from the postal carrier's statements.According to a USPS spokesperson, he claims he never sprayed through the screen door, didn't intend to pepper-spray Tamica, and only started spraying when both dogs were outside, lunging at him, to allow him to "leave the area."The spokesperson adds that based on the statements collected, they are standing by their postal carrier's version of events. They did apologize for Tamica getting pepper-sprayed in the incident.They also issued the following statement:"The Postal Service places the safety of its employees as a top priority. Letter carriers fearing for their safety due to a loose or unrestrained pet may stop delivery and ask homeowners to pick up their mail at the Post Office until the pet is restrained. In cases where a carrier sees a dog roaming and can’t discern where it resides, delivery could be interrupted to the entire neighborhood.In 2019, San Diego ranked #10 in the country for dog attacks on letter carriers. Dogs can be protective of their territory and may interpret the actions of letter carriers as a threat. Please take precautions when accepting mail in the presence of your pet.
