ISTANBUL, Turkey, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's special representative and State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Tuesday vowed to boost bilateral ties and increase exchanges of visits by leaders and senior officials.Dai met with Gul on the sidelines of the third summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA) here. XI'AN, July 17 (Xinhua) -- It is untrue to say that the investment environment in China is worsening, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Saturday as he invited more foreign companies to invest in the country.China sticks to its opening-up policy, Wen added.In talks with heads of prestigious German and Chinese firms in northwest China's Xi'an city, Wen and visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel aim to boost cooperation between the two nations."Currently, there is an allegation that China's investment environment is worsening. I think it is untrue," said Wen when answering a question from Juergen Hambrecht, chief executive of German chemical company BASF.Foreign firms have voiced concern China's indigenous innovation policy might provide incentives for government bodies to purchase products developed by Chinese companies.The World Bank in a July report gave China a low investment environment ranking.But the amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) that flowed into China in the first half of the year rose 19.6 percent year on year, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).China attracted 12.51 billion U.S. dollars in FDI in June alone, up 39.6 percent year on year.Wen said, "Foreign investment will not pour into a country where the investment environment is worsening."Wen said China has relatively good infrastructure as well as fair and stable market environment.

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A swollen subtributary of the Yangtze River has sent a deluge to Danjiangkou Reservoir, a major reservoir in central China's Henan and Hubei provinces, the state flood control agency said Sunday.The water level of the Danjiang River, a tributary of the Hanjiang River, rose to 217.59 meters Saturday afternoon, with a water flow of 10,000 cubic meters per second, the highest since 1953, said a statement of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.Hanjiang River is the second largest tributary of the Yangtze River, China's biggest river.Flood gushed into the Danjiangkou Reservoir, at the confluence of the Danjiang and Hanjiang rivers, 34,100 cubic meters a second early Sunday, the second biggest deluge since the reservoir was built in 1968.Liu Ning, vice minister of water resources and secretary general of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, said Sunday that local authority should closely monitor the weather, and step up monitoring efforts against potential flood risks.Premier Wen Jiabao has ordered local governments to adopt scientific measures to prepare well for "more serious floods and disasters" as some of the country's major rivers surpassed their warning levels.Wen said China was at a "crucial stage" for flood control during an inspection tour in Hubei Province that began July 23.

VIENTIANE, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping told Lao people here on Wednesday that China will consolidate traditional friendship with Laos.Xi made the remarks when meeting with a group of Lao people who have a long friendship with China.
