MANDEVILLE, Louisiana — If you've been putting off tidying up the house, let this serve as an incentive.Harold and Tina Ehrenberg, a couple from Mandeville, Louisiana, were cleaning up for Thanksgiving guests when they found a lottery ticket they'd purchased months earlier. It turned out to be worth .8 million."We have family coming into town for Thanksgiving, so I was cleaning up the house and found a few Lottery tickets on my nightstand that we hadn't checked," Tina Ehrenberg said in a statement released by the Louisiana Lottery. It's a good thing the couple found the ticket when they did. The drawing was June 6. Theirs was the only winning ticket.Had they waited two more weeks, they'd have gotten zip; the window to claim the prize — 180 days — would have closed. The pair said they couldn't believe their good fortune."I called the winning numbers hotline over and over," Tina Ehrenberg said.Added Harold Ehrenberg: "We kept checking the numbers again and again!"After taxes, the couple took home .2 million, which they plan to put toward retirement."We don't have any plans to buy anything crazy or go on any big trips," Tina Ehrenberg said."The most fun," her husband added, "is going to be depositing that check." 1239

MENLO PARK, Calif. – Facebook is offering to pay some of its users to deactivate their accounts in the weeks leading up to the 2020 election. It’s part of a new research partnership Facebook is launching to better understand the impact its website and Instagram have on key political attitudes and behaviors during U.S. elections.“We need to better understand whether social media makes us more polarized as a society, or if it largely reflects the divisions that already exist; if it helps people to become better informed about politics, or less; or if it affects people’s attitudes towards government and democracy, including whether and how they vote,” said Facebook when it announced the study Thursday.Facebook expects between 200,000 and 400,000 adults will choose to participate in the study. In a press release, the company said participating “could include taking part in surveys or agreeing to see a different product experience.”The company also said, “other participants may be asked to stop using Facebook or Instagram for a period of time. A subset of participants may be asked to install an app on their devices – with their permission – that will log other digital media that they consume.”The press release did not mention compensating participants, but screenshots tweeted out by Washington Post reporter Elizabeth Dwoskin show Instagram users being asked how much they’d need to be paid in exchange for deactivating their account in late September, for either one week or six weeks.Facebook spokesperson Liz Bourgeois responded to Dwoskin’s tweet, saying that anyone who chooses to opt in, whether it’s completing surveys or deactivating Facebook or Instagram for a period of time, will be compensated.“This is fairly standard for this type of academic research,” Bourgeois wrote.Anyone who chooses to opt in – whether it’s completing surveys or deactivating FB or IG for a period of time – will be compensated. This is fairly standard for this type of academic research. More here: https://t.co/uw4B8XhsYY— Liz Bourgeois (@Liz_Shepherd) September 3, 2020 While participants and Facebook employees will be compensated, the company says it will not be paying its external research partners, a team of independent academics, two of which serve as chairs of Social Science One committees. They’re said to be experts in the fields of elections, democracy and social media.Facebook says researchers will select and invite representative, scientific samples of people in the U.S. to participate in the study.“Some potential participants will see a notice in Facebook or Instagram inviting them to take part in the study,” wrote Facebook. “Study samples will be designed to ensure that participants mirror the diversity of the US adult population, as well as users of Facebook and Instagram.”Facebook said last week that the study will start soon and end in December, but it doesn’t expect to publish any findings until mid-2021 at the earliest and it doesn't expect the research to affect the outcome of the election. 3038

Michael Cohen, the longtime personal attorney for President Donald Trump, filed court papers Wednesday indicating he would assert his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination regarding his involvement in a hush money deal involving porn star Stormy Daniels and the President.Cohen cited FBI raids of his residence, office and hotel room and the seizure of "various electronic devices and documents in my possession," in his filing in US District Court in Los Angeles."Based upon the advice of counsel, I will assert my Fifth Amendment rights in connection with all proceedings in this case due to the ongoing criminal investigation by the FBI and US Attorney for the Southern District of New York," Cohen said.Cohen filed the declaration as part of an effort to have a civil lawsuit filed by Daniels put on hold. The judge in that case said last week that he needed to hear from Cohen directly before deciding on that request.Michael Avenatti, Daniels' attorney, called Cohen's declaration "a stunning development.""Never before in our nation's history has the attorney for the sitting President invoked the 5th Amend in connection with issues surrounding the President," Avenatti tweeted. "It is esp. stunning seeing as MC served as the 'fixer' for Mr. Trump for over 10 yrs. #basta."Avenatti told CNN that Cohen invoking the Fifth Amendment only strengthens their case against him."The fact finder -- whether it be a jury or a judge -- can find what is called a negative inference and what that means is that you can presume that if the witness answered the question instead of invoking his Fifth Amendment right that the answer would incriminate him that it would not be positive for him or her and that's a very serious matter," Avenatti said on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront."The judge in the Los Angeles case, S. James Otero, is tasked with determining whether there is a substantial overlap between the FBI raids in New York and the civil case before him in which Daniels is seeking to void an agreement in which Cohen paid her 0,000 to remain silent about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump a decade before his presidency, in 2006. The White House has said Trump denies the affair.Since Cohen and his lawyers are requesting the stay in the case, Otero said last week that the burden is on them to show a large overlap between the two matters. The "conundrum," the judge said, is that "the scope and breadth of the criminal investigation remain a mystery.Otero said in court last week that he was not privy to the affidavit for the New York searches, but that he'd reviewed the docket of proceedings in federal court in that jurisdiction. He said "common sense" told him the decision to conduct a raid on an attorney for the President of the United States' lawyer signaled "a significant and serious matter.""You're going to make sure that it's more than just a bare-bones case," Otero added. "It's probably substantially likely that there's some sort of criminal action to follow."Cohen and his attorney, Brent Blakely, have argued that the Daniels civil case should ultimately be sent to private arbitration. 3138

Many Americans have been working from home for months now and students have also been attending class from home.Your make-shift office or classroom may not be that comfortable. Some common complaints may include pain in the neck, shoulders, wrist, forearm, lower back, hips and legs.Physical therapists say if the family is sharing one workspace, it's important it can be adjusted.“You’d like to have a chair that matches the size of the person,” said Michelle Despres, a physical therapy expert. “It should have some adjustability. It should have some variability in what the chair can do. It should provide support for the lower back. It should have support for your legs. You should be able to put your feet flat on the floor and your thighs should be parallel to the floor.”If you're not looking to buy a desk or chair, you can still adjust by using books as a footrest. It's also important your computer setup is comfortable. If you can, try to use a monitor, or an external keyboard and mouse pad.If you are going to buy one thing for your workspace, Despres says a chair is a great investment.“Maybe, if you make one purchase, then probably the chair is the best purchase,” said Despres. “That's something that you can raise and lower. That's something that can adjust the back. You can go to the stores and sit in the chairs, try them out, adjust the arms.”You should be stretching as often as you can. If you're constantly sitting, make sure to stand often. Try to walk around. stretch your wrists or heel raises to get your blood moving. While you're sitting, make sure your shoulders are relaxed and not shrugging. 1630
