DETROIT — The Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon is the only International Marathon in the United States.Crossing the U.S.-Canadian border is the highlight for many runners, but this year two marathoners crossed another major threshold during the 26.2-mile run.Whitney Black and Steven Phillips started the Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank marathon engaged, and sealed the deal halfway to the finish line.What’s even more mind blowing than a mid-marathon wedding is that no one thought Black would ever be able to walk down the aisle, let alone run. She was seriously injured in an accident more than 10 years ago and then hit by a car while running 18 months ago."Twenty-one surgeries in total, (Black) was told she may never walk again," says McCann Black, Whitney's brother. "I’m just so proud of her, watching her set these goals and then blow through them has helped our family a great deal."Today, 13.1 miles into her very first full marathon, Black married her “sole mate,” Phillips. Phillips, by the way, has had quite a journey of his own, losing around 100 pounds.Friends and family waited near the 13.1 mile marker with balloons, a veil, rings and an officiant until Black and Phillips ran up to the makeshift altar."I promise to trust you even when we deviate from our grocery list," Black vowed."I will choose you every day, not because I have to, but because I want to," Phillips said.Their vows were short and sweet. The ceremony lasted about five or six minutes. The couple said getting married in the midst of their first marathon was a perfect setting for their relationship."We challenge each other to do better in every way," Black said, then she toasted her new husband with a shot of Gatorade and the two rejoined the race.  Crossing the finish line as husband and wife and committing to stay by each other's side for the long run."To see my baby sister getting married, it’s a lot to take in, but I’m just so happy for her," Black's brother said. 2044

(KGTV) - An East County couple is making a plea for help, fearful a power shutoff will be hazardous to their health.Holly and Alan Shields got the call from SDG&E Wednesday night, warning about possible power shutoff. Hours later, the power was shut off at their home in Descanso."My stomach just dropped. You know, it was like, 'What am I going to do?'" said Holly Shields."Nervous and stressed out," added Alan Shields.Both Holly and Alan require breathing aids. Alan, who served in the Army as a welder, suffers from chronic lung issues and must use a CPAP machine to help him breathe while he sleeps.Holly is battling breast cancer."I take very high steroids, which has cut down on the amount of oxygen my lungs can accept, so I have to be on an oxygen machine when I can't breathe," said Holly.Because of the power shutoff, neither Holly nor Alan will be able to their machines."I’m scared to death," said Holly.The two do have a generator, which is outside and has enough juice to power a freezer and heat their seven tortoises."The tortoises have to stay warm. Otherwise, they will go into hibernation, and it will kill them," said Holly.The couple says they couldn't afford an electrician to hook up their generator inside, and can't afford another generator."He lost a lot of work, both of us did, to COVID," said Holly.The couple now finding themselves in a precarious position, worried about how long their power will be out, and unable to breathe easily. They're hoping someone will lend them a generator and help them hook it up."It's tricky hooking it up to a home with solar panels. We have solar panels, but only generate power and send it to SDG&E. DENVER, Colorado – The man suspected of killing his wife and two daughters last week is likely to be formally charged today by Weld County prosecutors.The district attorney’s office has until 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time today to file formal charges against 33-year-old Chris Watts in the case. He was arrested late last Wednesday for investigation of first-degree murder and tampering with deceased body charges and has been held without bond.His pregnant wife and daughters, 34-year-old Shanann Watts, 3-year-old Celeste and 4-year-old Bella, were reported missing last Monday by a family friend after Shanann missed a doctor’s appointment.A day after the three were reported missing, Chris Watts gave an interview to KMGH television station in which he pleaded for the girls to come home and said he and his wife “had an emotional conversation” before he allegedly last saw her. Watts confessed to killing the three of them, two law enforcement sources told Denver7 last week.Shanann’s body was discovered in a field on Anadarko Petroleum Company property. Court documents show her body was found in a "shallow grave near an oil tank." Her daughter’s bodies were discovered concealed within oil tanks nearby, sources told KMGH television station. Court documents filed late last week show experts were advised the bodies were in tanks filled with crude oil "for several days." Chris Watts had been an Anadarko employee but was fired by the company Wednesday.On Friday, the coroner's office announced they had positively identified the bodies as those of Shanann Watts and her two daughters. The manner and cause of death of all three bodies are pending further laboratory results and have not been released at this time.A court motion filed by Watts’ defense attorneys late last week suggested the girls were possibly strangled. In the motion, the attorneys had asked a judge to compel the coroner to take DNA swabs from the necks and throats of the two girls, though the judge dismissed the motion. A judge also denied a request from the defense to allow an expert to be present at autopsies.Weld County prosecutors said in court last week they believed the two girls and their mother were killed inside the home but did not elaborate. Frederick police said Friday they still had several days of interviews to complete before Monday's deadline.The case has been sealed since late last Wednesday while the police investigation continued. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - About 400 horses displaced by the Lilac Fire will move back to their original home at San Luis Rey Downs next week, according to trainers at the Del Mar Racetrack.The horses have been living in Del Mar's stables since the fire tore through the downs on December 7. Nearly 50 horses died in the fire, and several trainers and stable workers were also injured.Del Mar has become their second home in the four months since."I joke that it's like losing your home and being put up in a proper hotel,"' says trainer Ed Freeman.He has 16 horses living at Del Mar and says he's not sure what the emotions will be like returning to the site of one of the worst days of his life."I'm a little worried it will be stressful for the workers," Freeman says. "Our barn isn't there, we'll be in a new spot. But it's still going back to the scene of the crime."Del Mar racing officials had targeted mid-April for the move-out. They need their stables back to begin preparations for this summer's racing season. Nearly 3200 horses will be using the track to train and race over the next few months."It's vital for Del Mar for people to have a place to bring in young horses that are going to be beneficial during our race season," says Racing Secretary David Jerkens.But, he adds, Del Mar was happy to help out."Sometimes it takes a tragedy to see the good in people," says Jerkens.A GoFundMe page run by Del Mar and Santa Anita Racetrack helped raise more than 0,000 to take care of the horses, trainers and workers displaced by the fire.
