Despite dropping out of the Democratic Party's nominating race two weeks ago, former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg made his first transfer of funds to the party in hopes of helping likely party nominee Joe Biden win the White House in November. Bloomberg sent million from his campaign to the Democratic Party on Friday. The Bloomberg campaign said that the campaign will also transfer several of its former field offices to state parties and help accelerate the hiring pace. Bloomberg staffers in six states will remain employed through the first week in April."As Mike said throughout the campaign, he would support whomever the eventual Democratic nominee is, as well as Democrats in key races that we must elect to help undo the damage President Trump has done in office," the Bloomberg campaign said in a memo to DNC Chair Tom Perez. "While our campaign has ended, Mike’s number one objective this year remains defeating Trump and helping Democrats win in November."The Bloomberg campaign said it weighed creating its own entity in hopes of helping the Democrats defeat President Donald Trump, but the campaign said "this race is too important to have many competing groups with good intentions but that are not coordinated and united in strategy and execution."As of Friday evening, Biden has 1,199 delegates, compared to Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has 894 delegates. A total of 1,991 delegates are required to win the nomination. 1445

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sought to recast the challenges facing his company in a historical light on Thursday, describing social media as a kind of "Fifth Estate" and describing politicians' calls to clamp down on tech companies as an effort to restrict the freedom of expression. In a speech citing landmark Supreme Court cases and historical figures such as Frederick Douglass, Zuckerberg told an audience at Georgetown University that during times of social upheaval, policymakers have instinctively sought to limit the freedom of speech."The impulse is to pull back from free expression," he said. But, he continued, "We are at a crossroads. We can either stand for free expression ... or we can decide the cost is simply too great. We must continue to stand for free expression."Zuckerberg had 814

Even with businesses starting to reopen, we're getting a better picture of not just who is still out of work but how much money was lost.About .3 trillion is estimated to be lost by American workers, according to the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Oxford Economics. That includes people who still have their jobs but may have been furloughed or had pay cuts. The estimates are that only between 11 and 20% of communities will have employment return to what it used to be.“Employers don’t have to respond to a generalized since of fear, so if you say I’m just not comfortable until there is a vaccine or I’m just not comfortable until you can give me certainty, what we're learning is they don’t have to do that and many of them won’t do that and I would just caution employees to realize that we are now for good or for bad in a buyer’s market,” said Johnny Taylor, Jr., the president and CEO of SHRM. SHRM found only 31% of employees said they were more productive working remotely, while 69% said they were less productive or the same. The group cautions employees about demanding remote work.“I’ve encouraged CEOs who've called me. You just have to be true to what your culture is. It is ok to say to an employee even if you are more productive at home, I want as senior management our culture to be more of a face to face one,” said Taylor.OSHA already requires companies to provide safe workplaces, and that includes new guidance about the coronavirus. 1486

DAYTON, Ohio — The city of Dayton battened down the hatches Saturday for a rally event held by the Ku Klux Klan. After the events of Charlottesville, city officials in Ohio weren't taking any chances as the notorious hate group exercised their first amendment rights. Officers and security aid came in from Cincinnati, Columbus and even Toledo as counterprotesters poured into Dayton. The city of Dayton blocked streets with large trucks Saturday and brought in officers from other jurisdictions to keep protesters separated from members of an obscure Klan group called the Honorable Sacred Knights. The group obtained a permit for the rally months ago. City officials and community leaders organized an effort called Dayton United Against Hate.In the end, only nine members of the Klan showed up, and could barely be seen through the double chain-link fence and wall of police. Protesters rallied around the fence, chanting anti-hate rhetoric and waving signs at the members inside.Although the event ended without a hitch, or even a single arrest, Dayton itself didn't get through as unscathed as things may have looked.Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein said the city estimated it spent about 0,000 on security costs for the event.City officials said many of the security measures implemented Saturday were intended specifically to keep Dayton residents safe with concealed carry and open carry of weapons.Dickstein said the city estimated around 0,000 was spent on personnel costs and 0,000 on materials needed for the rally.“We have very little way to recapture that spent money,” Dickstein said.Richard Biehl, Dayton police chief, said he was “very pleased” with security Saturday.“This clearly was a safety challenge for our city and our community,” he said.Biehl said his department did not make any arrests, and no use of force or injuries were reported. Exposing skin to sunlight is a convenient way to meet our vitamin D needs, which is crucial for bone health. That might make you wonder: Does wearing sunscreen interfere with vitamin D levels and potentially cause vitamin D deficiency? The short answer is yes. But before you toss your SPF 30, dermatologists say the relationship between sunscreen and vitamin D is much more nuanced than that.According to Dr. Henry W. Lim, chair emeritus of the department of dermatology at the Henry Ford Health System and former president of the American Academy of Dermatology, if sunscreen is supplied in a thick layer it "can effectively block sunlight and cause a lack of vitamin D synthesis in skin," Lim said. A thick layer is defined as roughly equivalent to about 1 ounce, or the size of one golf ball, for the full body, he said."However, in the real world ... most people apply less than this amount," Lim added. In other words, "the 'in use' SPF is actually lower than the labeled SPF."So, you may not have to worry about vitamin D deficiency if you're not putting enough sunscreen on in the first place. 1113
