SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A child suffered severe injuries from a pit bull attack Monday in Logan Heights.The child was bitten on Irving Avenue around 2:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.Paramedics took the child to Rady Children’s Hospital to be treated for head lacerations and a possible puncture to the eye.20-month-old “Ookie” the pit bull was impounded by Animal Control officers. The dog was relinquished for euthanasia by its owner.According to the infant's adult sister, the 2-month-old has a cracked cranium and possibly a punctured eye socket. Witnesses say group was in the backyard when the dog licked then bit the infant's face. The owner of the dog reportedly had to pry the dog's jaw off the baby.  745

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday that it awarded a 0,000 contract to a San Diego-based technology company to develop technology to monitor water quality.The grant, awarded to 2W iTech LLC, is one of nearly two dozen awarded by the EPA through its Small Business Innovation Research program. The EPA awarded grants worth a combined .3 million to 21 companies across the country to develop technologies to improve environmental and human health, monitor air and water quality and clean contaminated areas.With its grant, 2W iTech will develop a low-cost method to identify trace amounts of perfluoroalkyl substances in water at a rate as small as 10 parts per trillion.According to the EPA, perfluoroalkyl substances are man-made chemicals that are used in various consumer products like cookware and pizza boxes but can cause adverse health affects in humans if exposed to them over long periods of time."These funds support small businesses that have developed new technologies to monitor air quality, test for PFAS, and address other pressing environmental challenges,'' EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said. "Through EPA's Small Business Innovation Research program, we provide important assistance to entrepreneurs as they develop innovative solutions that will strengthen both environmental protections and economic growth.'' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver crashed his Mercedes-Benz through an underground parking garage gate, causing the gate to fall onto his car and leaving the vehicle -- and himself -- trapped at the entrance.The incident was reported at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 4300 block of Menlo Avenue, according to San Diego police.With the large gate on top of the car, responding officers helped the driver out of his vehicle.ABC 10News learned the man was treated by medics at the scene but was also being evaluated for possible DUI. He did not appear to be seriously hurt.It's unclear why the driver was attempting to enter the parking garage since he reportedly told police he does not live in the apartment complex. 743
