(KGTV) - The day after Christmas, a Miramar cidery owner woke up to learn a "grinch" broke in, stole items, and broke his handmade furniture.Owner of Serpentine Cider Sean Harris got the text while he was visiting his parents, out of town, for the holidays.He looked back at his security camera footage and around 10:45 p.m. Christmas night, a man in a backward baseball cap, black mask, and leather jacket moved furniture to get to a heat lamp and rolled it away.RELATED: SDPD investigating multiple brewery break-ins"Finally we're ready to close the doors on 2020 and hope for 2021 that is at least slightly better and then before the chapter closes we're able to throw this terrible, mutated, disgusting cherry on top," he said.The attack on his business cutting deeper during a year it's been hard to just survive, beaten down by constantly changing restrictions that have closed down his business multiple times.Now he has to replace stolen heat lamps and a canopy, "they cut our locks that chain everything together, they broke some of the furniture which is homemade by my father and I. They just stomped the furniture and broke it."That furniture holding deep meaning and a bond Harris and his father built during months of sweat and laughter, poured into the hand made pieces."The problem is is that he's in his 70s now and he's not going to be able to come down during COVID and build more of the stuff with me," he said. NAMPA, Idaho -- An Idaho woman decided to become a surrogate after giving birth to her son in 2018, because she wanted to give the gift of motherhood to someone else. After consulting with her husband, Emily Chrislip started the process in February 2019."We couldn't imagine what we would do without our own biological child, so we started looking into surrogacy and applied to some California agencies," Chrislip said.By September of that year, Emily was chosen as a surrogate for a couple in China. The process went as expected, up until two months before giving birth, when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and travel restrictions were put in place."So, the plan was to get here before the due date, and we were going to let them be in the delivery room. They were going to be a part of it, see her be born. So when she was born, they were supposed to get their own room at the hospital with the baby, and my husband and I would've had our own room, and my job was done at that point," Chrislip said.But things didn't go as planned. More than four months later, Emily is still caring for the baby even though the original plan was to hand the baby off as soon as she gave birth."I actually had some people I work with ask what about the baby's parents, and I was like, 'Oh shoot I don't know what's going to happen,' and so that's what started bringing up conversations like, 'OK, what's going to happen if they can't get here?,'" Chrislip said.The biological parents had the option of having a nanny agency care for the baby until they could travel to the U.S. to pick the baby up, but instead asked Emily and her husband if they would step in and care for her.Emily says she put herself in the parent's shoes and knew she had to care for the baby."So we were like, 'well alright, we'll take care of her,' it will be a max four weeks, we can do that, and now here we are and still don't know when they'll be here," Chrislip said.The first obstacle the biological parents faced with getting to the U.S. was the travel restrictions, but now getting a flight is nearly impossible since flights from China to the U.S. have decreased to one per week.Although the future looks uncertain, Emily says she doesn't mind caring for the baby in the meantime."So, we'll keep taking care of her, keep doing what we're doing and just kind of take it a week at a time until there's something more set in stone on when they're going to be here," Chrislip said.This story was originally published by Stephanie Garibay at KIVI. 2520

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota judge has declined defense requests to move the trial of four Minneapolis police officers charged in George Floyd’s death, and also ruled that all four would be tried in a single proceeding.Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill ruled Thursday after defense attorneys argued that pretrial publicity had made it impossible for the four men to get a fair trial.They had also cited a Sept. 11 hearing in which the men and their attorneys were confronted by angry protesters outside the courthouse.Moving the trial away from Minneapolis to less diverse areas of the state likely would have affected the makeup of the jury.The officers being charged are Derek Chauvin, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder of Floyd, a black man who died after being restrained by him and the other Minneapolis police officers on May 25. NATIONAL CITY (CNS) -  A pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles and killed while attempting to cross an Interstate 5 off-ramp in National City, authorities said Friday.The crash happened shortly before 8:25 p.m. Thursday on the Civic Center Drive off-ramp from southbound Interstate 5, California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Sanchez said.A man was attempting to cross the off-ramp from an unknown direction when he walked directly into the path of a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 33-year-old woman, Sanchez said. The man was then struck by two other vehicles, he said.The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, Sanchez said. 652
