SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials Wednesday announced the deaths of two more residents in San Diego County due to influenza-related complications, bringing this flu season's confirmed death toll to five. A 78-year-old North County woman died earlier this month and a 70-year- old woman died in July, but both deaths were only reported last week, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency. Both women, who were not publicly identified, had no record of receiving a flu shot and both had additional medical issues, HHSA officials said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist died Sunday in a head-on collision with a truck in the San Pasqual neighborhood, police said.The accident happened at 1:41 p.m. when a 65-year-old man riding a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east in the 18000 block of San Pasqual Valley Road crossed over the double yellow line and hit a 1997 Ford 250 driven by an 88-year-old man traveling west, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The motorcyclist died and the driver of the Ford and his passenger were taken to the hospital.Traffic Division is investigating the collision. 609

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man died in a hospital Sunday of injuries he suffered in a collision with a boat while he rode a Jet Ski in Mission Bay, authorities said.The collision happened at 6:30 p.m. Saturday near the north end of Ski Beach when a man in his 20s from out of state was riding on a Jet Ski with another family member, according to the San Diego Police Department.A boat collided with the Jet Ski and the injured man was taken back to shore by the family member, where CPR was performed and a pulse was eventually detected, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died Sunday.Police questioned the driver of the boat, which was taken as evidence. The investigation of the collision is ongoing. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man smashed a display case at a Mira Mesa jewelry store and stole several necklaces, police said Tuesday.The theft was reported shortly after 6:50 p.m. Monday at Daniel's Jewelers in the shopping center near Mira Mesa Boulevard and Camino Ruiz, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A man entered the store and smashed a glass display case with a hammer, Buttle said, adding that the thief did not threaten the employee.The thief then grabbed several necklaces from the display case and fled in an unknown direction, the officer said.The suspect was described as a 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 Black man in his late 20s. He was last seen wearing a black mask, a blue sweatshirt and khaki pants. 719

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman was injured illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, a Border Patrol official said Saturday.The woman, a Guatemalan citizen, had one child with her whose age was not disclosed, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Olmos said.Agents found her and the child around 8:25 p.m. Friday in an area east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
