SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With one of the largest holidays of the year just a day away, getting around and conducting business before and on the holiday can be tricky to navigate with what is closed and open.The North County Transit District will have a normal service schedule for Christmas Eve. However, the Amtrak R2R partnership with NCTD -- which allows Coaster customers to travel on Amtrak trains in the San Diego area -- will be blacked out through Monday. During this time, all Amtrak Pacific Surfliner customers will be required to show a valid Amtrak fare and no COASTER passes will be accepted.NCTD schedules will be reduced to a Sunday service schedule on Christmas.The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System will run a similar schedule, with normal weekday hours Christmas Eve on all Trolley lines and MTS local, urban, Express, Rapid and Rapid Express bus routes.Christmas is more complicated. All Trolley lines except the Silver Line will operate on a half-hour frequency on Christmas Day. Rapid, urban, and local bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.No service will be provided on Rapid Express routes 280 or 290, Rapid routes 204, 237 and Express routes 50, 60, 110, 150, Sorrento Valley Coaster Connection and most express bus routes. MTS Access subscriptions are cancelled. Subscription passengers who still want service must call ahead of time to arrange their transportation.Finally, several rural routes have been rescheduled. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - "It's not fair and it's not right," says Warren Peters of Spring Valley. He says he's been watching his son, Jahmes, spend several months fighting for his federal tax return. "People need this money. People have worked for this money. People have earned this money," says 24 year-old Jahmes.The young man tells Team 10 that he filed online in February and received his state refund, but not his federal refund. It's now been more than 7 months. A return summary shows he's owed almost ,200 from the IRS.Jahmes says he's between jobs and burning through his savings. His father tries to help but says he's retired and on a fixed income, so his means are limited."It doesn't feel too good depending on your dad at 24-years-old," Jahmes tells Team 10. Jahmes says he has repeatedly called, emailed and written to the IRS. He adds he was once asked to appear in-person to verify identity, which he says he completed. However, he says his efforts didn't yield clear answers from the IRS.On the IRS website, he showed us what he says is his filing status. "Your tax return is still being processed," is what it reads. "If the circumstances were different, [the IRS] would be knocking on [our] door looking for their money," says Warren Peters. "The IRS is just understaffed and overworked," says tax attorney Ronson Shamoun, CEO of Downtown San Diego's RJS Law Firm. He says long delays are not uncommon. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A dog owner is making desperate plea for the return of her puppy after a burglary at her Spring Valley home."Up all night crying ... I can barely see through my eyes," said Ashley Morales.The Morales' family dog Snuffles, a 4-month old Pekachu, was inside their condo just after 9 a.m. Sunday. Two of Morales' children, ages 11 and 13, were sleeping in a bedroom when the strangers broke in. She and her husband weren't planning on being gone long. They were going to the grocery store to buy items for breakfast.Morales and her husband left the door unlocked, and that is how the intruders got in. A neighbor called them during their shopping trip to report something suspicious.When the couple got home less than an hour later, they made a terrifying discovery. Their bedroom was ransacked. A few feet away, their kids' bedroom was untouched. The door had been shut and her kids had slept through it. "We ran upstairs and hugged our kids. This could have turned out so much worse," said Morales.Deputies say the suspects were captured in a neighbor's surveillance camera, which shows them walking in and out of the condo. In one clip, a woman is seen walking out with what appears to be a television. Morales say they also got away with a box of her jewelry."Some of the jewelry my father gave me before he passed away," said Morales.But Morales says her most painful loss is her puppy, which was nowhere to be found. Morales believes the intruders took him."My dog doesn't leave anywhere. If he had gotten out, he would have stayed close to home. I felt like one of my kids was kidnapped. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A California couple who operated a charity that claimed to provide goods to San Diegans in need has been sentenced to prison.Geraldine Hill and Clayton Hill pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and tax evasion in June, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California. Geraldine has been sentenced to 15 months in prison while Clayton was sentenced to 9 months in prison.The couple operated On Your Feet, also known as Family Resource Center. From 2011 to 2016, the pair obtained more than .35 million in donated clothing and other items and claimed the items would be given to the needy, according to prosecutors. The items were supposed to benefit low-income families in San Diego.“While fraud is always wrong, the theft of charitable donations that were to be used to help San Diego’s low income families is particularly disheartening,” said Acting FBI Special Agent in Charge Omer Meisel. “This type of fraud and deceit for personal gain simply cannot be tolerated. The FBI is committed to ensuring that white collar predators don’t prevent those less fortunate from receiving all the benefits that generous donors provide to seemingly legitimate non-profit organizations.”The Hills only donated about ,000 in charitable donations and sold the remaining items, using the proceeds to support themselves, their family, and lavish spending, prosecutors say. Between January 2011 and February 2017, the couple spent nearly 0,000 from personal and charity bank accounts on luxury retail, vacations, entertainment, and vehicles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Good Samaritan discovered a cat and her 11 kittens inside a downtown dumpster San Diego recently.The San Diego Humane Society said it's now caring for the cat and her kittens, which is a rare size for any litter.“A healthy litter this size is incredibly uncommon and certainly not something we see every day in the nursery,” said Jackie Noble, SDHS kitten nursery manager.RELATED: East County woman loses hundreds of dollars in pet scamThe Good Samaritan told SDHS it didn't appear the cat was dumped there and may have been using the dumpster as a safe place to hide and care for her kittens.SDHS said the animals are all in good health. The animals will remain there until the kittens are ready to be put up for adoption and the mother is spayed."As cute as the kittens are, a litter this large highlights the importance of spaying and neutering.
