HOUSTON (AP) — Barbara Bush was the "first lady of the greatest generation."Historian Jon Meacham bestowed the title on Barbara Bush while speaking to former presidents, ambassadors and hundreds of other mourners inside the nation's largest Episcopal church during her funeral Saturday. He recalled the former first lady's quick wit, as well as her devotion to promoting literacy, bringing awareness to AIDS patients and to her husband of 73 years.Former President George H.W. Bush., the historian noted, was the "only boy she ever kissed."Meacham, who wrote a 2015 biography on George H.W. Bush, joined some 1,500 people on a gray, rainy Saturday to honor the wife of the 41st president and the mother of the 43rd. The private funeral filled St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston a day after more than 6,000 people came through the church to pay their respects during a public viewing.RELATED: Family, former presidents and more attend funeral for Barbara Bush in Houston, TexasHer son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, joked during his eulogy that his mother called her style of mothering him and his siblings "a benevolent dictatorship — but honestly it wasn't always benevolent." He emphasized how she believed in the power of laughter and that joy should be shared. He choked up when saying his mother — known for her self-deprecating remarks about her wrinkles and gray hair — was "beautiful" until the very end. He said he felt priviliged that he had a "front row" seat to the incredible love story that his parents shared. His father, George H.W. Bush, was helped into the cavernous sanctuary with a wheelchair behind Jeb and his son former President George W. Bush. He laughed as Meacham and others recalled his wife's wicked sense of humor. Barbara and George Bush were married longer than any other presidential couple.GALLERY: Funeral, visitation for former first lady Barbara BushA eulogy was also given by Susan Baker, wife of former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, who said her longtime friend was "the secret sauce of this extraordinary family."Seated near the front of the church in the same pew were two other former presidents — Bill Clinton and Barack Obama — along with their wives and current first lady Melania Trump.Barbara Bush's granddaughters delivered readings during the service and her grandsons served as pallbearers as the casket was later wheeled out of the church. George H.W. Bush followed in his wheelchair, pushed by son George W. Bush, shaking hands with some of the people in the pews. In his lap, he carried his glasses and a copy of the funeral program.Barbara Bush died, with her husband by her side, at their home in Houston on Tuesday at age 92.Flags were flown at half-mast as the service began as the choir sang "My Country Tis of Thee." The church was adorned with sprays of yellow garden roses, yellow snap dragons, antique hydrangeas and other flowers.Other guests included former Rep. Gabby Giffords and her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, and professional golfer Phil Mickelson, along with Karl Rove, and other former White House staff. Many were seen embracing in the church before the service.President Donald Trump isn't attending to avoid security disruptions and "out of respect for the Bush family and friends attending the service," according to the White House. He released a statement Saturday saying his "thoughts and prayers" are "with the entire Bush family."A burial will follow at the Bush Library at Texas A&M University, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) northwest of Houston. The burial site is in a gated plot surrounded by trees and near a creek where the couple's 3-year-old daughter, Robin, who died of leukemia in 1953, is buried. On Friday, a total of 6,231 people stopped by the church to pay their respects. Many of the women wore the former first lady's favorite color, blue, and trademark pearls. After seeing how many people had lined up to pay their respects to his wife, former President George H.W. Bush decided to attend — he sat at the front of the church in a wheelchair, offering his hand and smiled as people shook it, for about 15 minutes.Barbara Bush, one of just two first ladies to have a child elected president, also was known as the "Enforcer" in her family, the glue who kept the high-powered clan together. 4328

In a rare move, the Senate on Wednesday night voted to change longstanding rules to allow newborns?-- for the first time -- onto the Senate floor during votes. The rule change, voted through by unanimous consent, was done to accommodate senators with newborn babies, allowing them now to be able to bring a child under 1 year old onto the Senate floor and breastfeed them during votes.Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who gave birth this month to her second child, becoming the first US Senator to do so while in office, spearheaded the push for the rule change and applauded her fellow lawmakers who she says helped to "bring the Senate into the 21st Century by recognizing that sometimes new parents also have responsibilities at work.""By ensuring that no Senator will be prevented from performing their constitutional responsibilities simply because they have a young child, the Senate is leading by example and sending the important message that working parents everywhere deserve family-friendly workplace policies," Duckworth said in a statement after the vote.Duckworth decided to take her maternity leave in Washington, DC, rather than in Illinois, to be able to be on hand and available to cast her vote in the Senate if needed. But she expressed concern about the complex and strict Senate rules, which might impact her ability to do so while caring for -- and breastfeeding -- her newborn. There are a whole host of Senate rules that would make voting difficult for a senator while caring for her baby -- being unable to hand the baby off to a staffer, being unable to bring a child onto the floor and being unable to vote via proxy.Duckworth has been working behind the scenes for months to change the rules -- the likes of which have not been changed for quite some time. The last time the Senate granted additional floor privileges was in 1977 when it voted to change Senate rules to allow service dogs. The change was not done without some concern from some senators.Congressional aides tell CNN that there were many real questions from senators, expressing concern about the impact of opening the floor up to newborns. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, said that the questions from other senators varied, from asking whether diapers will be changed on the Senate floor to questions if there should be a dress code for the baby on the floor."It's been quite a journey," Klobuchar told CNN of her help as the top Democratic member of the Senate Rules Committee, working with Chairman Roy Blunt of Missouri to get this out of quickly and onto the Senate floor."The Senate is steeped in tradition and just like the rest of the country, sometimes things have to change," she said. After the rule change passed this evening Sen. Dick Durbin, the second ranking Democrat in the chamber, said he thinks the change will be a welcome improvement to the floor."Perhaps the cry of a baby will shock the Senate at times into speaking out and even crying out on the issues that confront our nation and the world," Durbin said. 3049

How do you re-capture a gigantic runaway pig?According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, deputies received a call on Saturday that a pig "the size of a mini horse" was roaming a local neighborhood.Deputies were quickly able to track down the swine and determined where he lived, but still had to figure out how to corral him and get him home. It turns out, pigs don't need to be corralled if there are Doritos on hand.According to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Office, Deputy Ponce had a bag of Doritos on hand in her lunch box and was able to lure the pig back to his home by laying a trail of chips on the street. The pig made it safely home and deputies were able to secure the gate. Ponce called the journey "fun."The Doritos appeared to be of the Cool Ranch variety. It's unclear if the pig would have been swayed by Nacho Cheese chips.  880

If you own a 2018 or 2019 Jeep Wrangler, get ready for a recall. According to documents posted to the JL Wrangler Forum, Fiat-Chrysler will soon be launching a recall that covers “certain” 2018-19 Wranglers because a faulty weld in the frame can cause a sudden crash.More specifically, the documents state some of the vehicles may have been built “with a front bar bracket weld located off the seam potentially resulting in the bracket separating from the frame.” If that happens, there may be a reduction in steering response, resulting in a crash without warning. At the time of this story, car owners had not yet been notified and the recall hasn’t been made official on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, but the posted documents show dealerships are aware of the impending recall. Some of the vehicles involved in the recall have actually not even been sold yet, so dealerships are being told to withhold sales.  991
