BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official has encouraged the country's young jurists to more actively participate in the country's legislative process and better serve the practice of law enforcement.Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in meeting with outstanding youth law science experts on Tuesday in Beijing.Zhou said young experts on law science should pay more attention to practical problems in China's legal construction and propose more insights, advice and suggestions.Young experts should study more problems encountered by common people and better serve the people with their knowledge, Zhou said.Ten experts on law science from the Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law and other universities and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences were awarded the honor of national outstanding young jurists by the China Law Society.

BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese currency, or the yuan, rose to a new high of 6.585 against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.The central parity rate of the RMB, or the yuan, was 10 basis points higher than the previous record of 6.586 set on Feb. 1, the previous trading day.The yuan appreciated 3.6 percent last year, but some analysts predict it could rise further against the dollar this year as the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, attempts to cool accelerating inflation.The PBOC announced Tuesday it would raise the benchmark one-year borrowing and lending rates by 25 basis points from Wednesday.On China's foreign exchange spot market, the yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.The central parity rate of the RMB against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices before the opening of the market each business day.

There's not a loser among them," said landing site scientist Matt Golombek of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, one of the meeting's leaders.The mission will use rover Curiosity to study whether a selected area will have environmental conditions suitable for life and for preserving evidence about whether extraterrestial life has existed.Being nuclear-powered, the rover cannot go to a location that has either water or ice within one meter of the surface.The size of a mini Cooper, Curiosity is scheduled to launch in late November after a two-year delay.
