WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice is using aggressive tactics against those it has charged in the civil unrest over racism. Those people have been portrayed by President Donald Trump as violent left-wing radicals.The Republican president has used the protests to try to scare white, suburban voters into reelecting him. But an Associated Press review of thousands of pages of court documents from the more than 300 federal arrests made nationwide shows many are people caught up in the moment. Very few of those charged appear to be affiliated with any highly organized extremist groups.The Associated Press reports that there is only one apparent mention of antifa in a federal arrest. In a Boston case, an FBI Gang Task Force member was investigating “suspected ANTIFA activity associated with the protests” when a suspect shot at police. VISTA (CNS) - A man who allegedly stabbed a transient at the culmination of an Escondido crime spree pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges Tuesday, with police saying new jail booking criteria established during the COVID-19 pandemic kept the suspect out of custody despite numerous arrests.Timothy Alvarado, 22, of La Mesa, is accused of stabbing the victim in the neck on May 16, following several other arrests in the weeks leading up to the alleged attack.Alvarado was arrested and released four times between May 2 and May 14 for allegedly stealing cars, including the same vehicle twice in four days from the same apartment complex, according to Escondido police.Alvarado faces an attempted murder charge in the May 16 stabbing, and about a dozen additional felony counts related to the car thefts. Walmart will be open an hour later at most locations across the US starting November 14. The retailer curtailed shopping hours at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and has been slowly expanding hours since then.Currently, most Walmart locations are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., but on November 14, locations will remain open until 11 p.m., unless otherwise mandated by local government restrictions.Walmart also said that locations will continue operating a special shopping hour every Tuesday for customers 60 and older and those most vulnerable, starting one hour before store opening.The announcement comes as stores prepare for the busy holiday shopping season.
