A federal district court judge handed the Trump administration another defeat in its attempt to allow states to impose work requirements in Medicaid, which has caused 18,000 people to lose coverage so far.In two closely watched cases, US District Court Judge James Boasberg Wednesday voided the administration's approvals of requests by Kentucky and Arkansas to mandate that low-income people work for benefits and kicked the matter back to the Department of Health & Human Services for further review. Boasberg also suspended the program in Arkansas, which began in June.In both cases, the approvals did not address how the requests would align with Medicaid's core objective of providing Medicaid coverage to the needy, the judge said. However, Boasberg also said that it's not impossible for the agency to justify its approvals, but it has yet to do so.The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which has granted work requirement requests from nine states and is considering several more, was not deterred by the ruling."We will continue to defend our efforts to give states greater flexibility to help low income Americans rise out of poverty," said Seema Verma, the agency's administrator. "We believe, as have numerous past administrations, that states are the laboratories of democracy and we will vigorously support their innovative, state-driven efforts to develop and test reforms that will advance the objectives of the Medicaid program."Consumer groups sued the administration, arguing that mandating low-income people to work for benefits runs counter to Medicaid's objective of providing the poor with access to health care."We are gratified by the court's rulings today. They mean that low-income people in Kentucky and Arkansas will maintain their health insurance coverage -- coverage that enables them to live, work, and participate as fully as they can in their communities. Coverage matters, plain and simple," said Jane Perkins, legal director at the National Health Law Program, one of the groups involved in both suits. The advocates were seeking to stop the requirement in Arkansas, which yanked coverage from 18,000 people after they failed to meet the new rules. Arkansas was the first state in the nation to implement the mandate after the Trump administration began allowing it last year."I am disappointed in the decision handed down late this afternoon," Arkansas Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson said. "I have not yet had the opportunity to review the opinion in its entirety, but I plan to do so this evening and provide further comment tomorrow morning on the future of the Arkansas Works work requirement."Also, the consumer groups once again sued to block the start of work requirements in Kentucky, which had to halt implementation last June after the same judge voided the federal government's approval. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Video games are not just for the young anymore – they’re for the young at heart. People over the age of 50 are one of the fastest growing group of video game players in the country and that is translating into big bucks. It’s a trend that can be seen at the Hayes Senior Wellness Center in Washington, D.C. That is where afternoons are a time to get up and strike in video game bowling. “It’s fun,” said 62-year-old Karen Glymph. “It brings you up, makes you laugh.” Glymph plays to win, even though video games are not what this generation grew up with. “We didn’t have this then,” she said. “Most everybody wanted to go outside. Now, they want to stay and play video games.” That is especially true for seniors, according to a new study by the AARP. “Gaming and technology – that's where we see a bigger shift,” said Alison Bryant, AARP senior vice president of research. How big is the shift? In 2016, about 40 million people over the age of 50 played video games monthly. By 2019, that number soared to more than 50 million. That means 44% of all seniors are now regularly playing video games. All of this is turning into big business, because the amount of money seniors spent on video games last year alone totaled billion. “I hope that the gaming industry is going to start taking a look at these numbers and saying, ‘wait a minute. There's really an opportunity here to increase our market share’ and to develop games that might be even more exciting for older adults,” Bryant said. Back at the senior center, Karen Glymph said she could never have imagined doing this in her younger years. “I really had no idea that I was going to play a video game and move my whole body,” she said. “So, it's like ‘whoa!’”It is an excitement for video games that’s contagious for an older generation, too. 1836

A Cincinnati teenager's trip to Santa's Wonderland today did not turn out as expected.13-year-old Carlo Averion showed up, and received a life-changing gift: digital glasses to help him see again. Averion suffers from Stargardt's Disease, a progressive disease that's causing him to lose his sight. The disease causes macular degeneration, and currently there is no cure for it. The glasses are manufactured by a company called E-Sight, and their website claims the glasses work through a mix of optical and computer technology "to stimulate he remaining photoreceptors in your eyes, sending more information to the brain and enhancing your ability to see clearly." These glasses were purchased with a combination of donated funds and grant money. "We have people that donated and we don't even know who they are, and we're very grateful for their generosity," said Lisa Averion, Carlo's mother. Carlo says he's excited to be able to see again, but he still has one simple wish:"When school starts back up, I just want to sit at my desk and read something on the board," he said. "It's really just the small things that I want to look at that people normally take for granted in life." The glasses were provided for Carlo thropugh donations, and a grant from the First Hand Foundation, a non-profit that helps provide children with health-related needs. 1366

A former business manager for late Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee was arrested Saturday in Arizona on charges including elder abuse, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.Keya Morgan faces felony charges of false imprisonment and grand theft from an elder and a misdemeanor charge of elder abuse, police said in a news release.A warrant had been issued for Morgan's arrest earlier this month following an elder abuse estate investigation that began in March 2018.Bail has been set at 0,000 and Morgan is expected to be extradicted to Los Angeles, police said.CNN has reached out to an attorney for Morgan.Among other things, Morgan is accused of collecting money from business transactions -- like autograph signing sessions in May 2018 that totaled more than 2,000 -- and not transferring the money to Lee.Lee died in November 2018 at age 95.His estate was worth more than million, but no one had clear authority to act on Lee's behalf, police said."Morgan exerted his control and influence over Lee," police said in the news release.Morgan also is accused of falsely imprisoning Lee when he took Lee from his Hollywood Hills home to what police described as a "secured Beverly Hills condominium" in the late night hours in June 2018.Police said Lee was "removed from Morgan's control" later that month when he was arrested by LAPD for making fake 911 calls in May 2018. Police said Morgan made the calls in order to make Lee believe he was in danger.Lee had a restraining order against Morgan Morgan reportedly became close to Lee after the death of his wife, Joan Lee, in 2017.Before his death, Lee was granted a temporary restraining order against Morgan that banned him from abusing, harassing or contacting Lee and required him to stay at least 100 yards away from him.At the time, Morgan denied the allegations."I have taken great care of Stan Lee for the past many years, and have never had a problem directly with Stan. I have a fantastic relationship with him for the past many years as he has stated countless times on the record and I literally saved his life once," Morgan told TMZ in June 2018. "I will 100% prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the allegations against me are false."Lee was the creator of dozens of iconic comic figures, including Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man and Black Panther. 2339
