When she dies, her ring is placed in a velvet-lined memorial box alongside dozens of others to commemorate her dedication to the church.During the monastery's entire 159 years of existence, Sister Aileen Bankemper said, no one has ever dared to steal one. On Monday, someone stole more than 100. "There was a sense of just emptiness," Bankemper, the prioress, said of discovering the burglary. "There was just like, 'Why would somebody do that?' We're a generous community. It somebody had a need for money, they could have come to us, and we certainly would have listened to what their need was."The rings disappeared while the sisters were attending a memorial service for 88-year-old Sister Cecilia Dagle, who was known during her time at the monastery for her kind spirit and habit of writing birthday cards for each of her fellow sisters. CORONADO (CNS) - The City of Coronado and The Port of San Diego closed the Grand Caribe Shoreline Park Thursday until further notice, citing public health orders during the ongoing pandemic.The port had reopened the park in May, but because of heavier-than-usual use at the park -- which abuts Chula Vista on the bayside of the Coronado Cays -- it has become challenging to enforce social distancing for visitors."However, due to heavier than normal use, enforcement of the State and County’s health orders, which requires measures to ensure park visitors are social distancing from others, has become a challenge," a release from the port read.The park will be closed until gatherings are allowed without restrictions. "Closed" signs will be posted at the park, and the Coronado Police Department will assist the port with enforcement of the closure. 859

CVS says they are planning to expand their COVID-19 testing services.On Wednesday, the pharmacy chain announced that it would add rapid-result COVID testing at nearly 1,000 sites by the end of the year."Access to rapid-result tests enables us to help minimize community spread of COVID-19 by being able to more quickly identify active COVID-19 infection," said David Fairchild, MD, Chief Medical Officer, MinuteClinic in a press release. "In addition, we can test and treat symptomatic patients who test negative for COVID-19 for seasonal illnesses such as flu or strep and provide appropriate treatment and care."CVS said starting this week nearly 100 of the rapid-result test sites will be operational.If patients meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria, the tests would be made available at no cost.Currently, CVS manages more than 4,000 drive-thru test sites in 33 states and Washington, D.C., with results coming back within 2-3 days.To schedule an appointment, you must register in advance at CVS.com. (AP) — A fatal shooting inside a Costco Wholesale warehouse store Friday night took place after a man attacked an off-duty police officer, the Corona Police Department said.Kenneth French, 32, of Riverside assaulted the Los Angeles Police Department officer while he was holding his young child, the department said in a statement Saturday night. The officer fired his gun, hitting French and two of French's relatives, the department said.French was killed, the department said. The relatives are in critical conditions at hospitals.The officer, whose identity is being withheld, was treated and released at a nearby hospital, and the officer's child was not injured, the department said.The officer was the only person who fired shots in the store, the department said.The shooting prompted a stampede of frightened shoppers to flee the store east of Los Angeles and seek cover inside.Witnesses said they saw a man with a Mohawk haircut arguing with someone near a freezer section when shots rang out at least six times.
