Tiny houses come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are equipped with the basics for living, sleeping, and cooking. They range in size from 150 square feet to 400 square feet and cost between ,000 and 0,000.Tiny homes can help create an affordable option for low-income residents that doesn’t require a taxpayer subsidy.City officials said, “A significant portion of households in San Diego can afford a movable tiny house as an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). The average cost of rent for a tiny home is 0 a month. A property owner would recover their initial investment in eight years. After that, the rent from the tiny house could help cover their mortgage and other expenses.”Currently, the city allows homeowners to build accessory dwelling units on their properties. With Tuesday’s approval, homeowners can add tiny homes to their properties.“Moveable tiny homes are a great option that naturally increases affordable housing at no cost to taxpayers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Time is running out to sign up for the San Diego Promise, a tuition-free college program within the San Diego Community College District. So far more than 1,700 students from 198 California high schools have signed up for the program, which provides tuition and textbook grants for up to two years for first-time, full-time students. The deadline to apply is June 28. Officials with the district say about three times more students have so far signed up compared to last year. “The San Diego Promise offers much more than a financial guarantee,” said Lynn Neault, SDCCD Vice Chancellor of Student Services. “The program’s many wrap-around services result in San Diego Promise students faring better than their non-Promise counterparts academically.”To sign up, students need to complete a fall 2019 admissions application for City, Mesa or Miramar colleges, complete a 2019-2020 FAFSA application and fill out a Promise application. All first-time students are eligible to apply, regardless of financial status, the district says. The program launched in 2016 with 186 students participating. During the 2017-2018 school year, that number increased to 661. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Board of Supervisors announced Monday that the county will close bars without a license to sell food ahead of the July 4 weekend in an effort to slow rising coronavirus cases.San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the county will close all bars, wineries, and breweries that do not have a license to serve food. California took a similar stance with several counties over the weekend."Bars are purely social settings where different people and groups often mix. It's a simple reality that alcohol consumption impairs judgment and may lead to less compliance with physical distancing guidelines," Fletcher said. "People often spend more time in a bar than other establishments like a restaurant for eating."RELATED: Gov. Of those, two outbreaks were traced back to restaurants/bars.
