SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 19-year-old man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of fatally shooting an acquaintance at a San Ysidro motel.Customs officers who recognized Jonathan Orduno of Chula Vista from a be-on-the-lookout bulletin took him into custody at the San Ysidro Point of Entry on Thursday night in connection with the death last week of 22-year-old Adrian Torres-Garcia, according to San Diego police.A housekeeper found Torres-Garcia dead in a rented room at a motel in the 100 block of Calle Primera shortly before noon March 18, homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs said. The victim, a South Bay native with no known permanent address, died of at least one gunshot to his upper body.RELATED: San Diego police investigate death of man at San Ysidro motelDobbs declined to disclose a suspected motive for the shooting or release details on what led investigators to identify Orduno as the alleged killer. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 41-year-old La Vegas man was killed when he crashed his motorcycle into a concrete guardrail on a freeway connector ramp in La Mesa, authorities said Thursday.The crash happened around 5:55 p.m. Wednesday on the connector ramp from eastbound Interstate 8 to northbound state Route 125, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy said.A man was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he allowed the bike to veer to the right and strike a concrete guardrail, Christy said. The impact ejected the rider off of the motorcycle, over the guardrail and onto the traffic lanes of westbound I-8.The rider, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. 735

SAN DIEGO — The main stretch of Avenida de la Playa in the La Jolla Shores area is closing to vehicles through September so restaurants can set up tables out on the asphalt.Restaurants began setting up Wednesday for the outdoor service, which will run through Sept. 27. The change comes in response to a new round of Coronavirus related restrictions that make it illegal for restaurant to serve food indoors. Avenida de la Playa will close to cars from El Paseo Grande to Calle de la Plata. Restaurants will be setting up in the part of the street that was reserved for parking spaces. There will be a 20-foot wide walkway down the center of the road for pedestrians to pass. The move will allow restaurants that lost capacity due to restrictions a chance to add tables. SALEM, Ore. – Authorities responding to a hostage situation in Oregon found three people dead from gunshot wounds in an Oregon home Monday.The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that its deputies responded to the hostage situation at a home in Salem at about 12:30 p.m. local time.At the home, Oregon State Police says deputies were able to establish communications with the suspect, 34-year-old Jose Jesus Lopez-Tinoco, in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully.But upon hearing gunshots inside the home, officers forced their way inside in a rescue attempt. During the rescue, police say one deputy fired an undetermined number of shots.Inside the home, police say deputies located the body of Lopez-Tinoco with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The officers also found a deceased 24-year-old, Diari Rocio -Bustos, and the body of an 11-year-old boy. Both suffered fatal gunshot wounds.A 13-year-old boy and a 43-year-old woman were also found alive in the home. The boy was unharmed, but the woman was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital.No law enforcement officers were injured and there’s no reason to believe there is any outstanding danger to the Salem community, officials say.The 2-year deputy who fired shots during the incident, Ricky Kittelson, has been placed on administrative leave, as is protocol.The investigation into the incident is being turned over to the Oregon State Police, concurrent with state policy regarding officer-involved shootings. 1534

SAN DIEGO — Medical workers from all over San Diego made their way into SDCCU Stadium Wednesday to pick up free Personal Protective Equipment for their small and medium sized practices.The workers got free hand sanitizer, N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves and gowns. "It's really hard to find in stores, online, it's all out, everywhere," said Juana Vasquez, medical assistant at La Mesa Family Medical Groups, who was picking up supplies.Volunteers from the San Diego County Medical Society, UCSD Medical School and the Mira Mesa High School football team handed drivers boxes of the gear in the stadium's parking lot. Medical organizations of 50 or fewer are eligible, and more than 500 of them registered for the event. Dr. Holly Yang, a hospice and palliative care specialist at Scripps and president of the San Diego County Medical Society, said larger hospital systems have been able to source the necessary PPE for its staff. For smaller operations, however, it has been a challenge."Everyone wants to take care of patients," Yang said. "We should not in this country have to be afraid for ourselves and our families. We should have the right equipment. It’s completely inexcusable that this far into the pandemic that that is not available and I’m so grateful that we are able to do this for our small practices."The items came available due to Gov.
