BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping said that going after some kind of military adventure "never crosses our mind" and reiterated the pledge that China will never practice expansionism or seek hegemony.

"It is my hope that the Chinese and British peoples will carry on our joint efforts in defense of the fruits of the victory in the World Anti-fascist War, that we will uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and that we will promote the building of a new type of international relations based on win-win cooperation," Xi said.

Xi noted that both China and the United States support the comprehensive and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and an earlier completion of negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea based on consensus.

The series began in late July. It was the biggest and most comprehensive military exercise China has conducted in recent years, testing space reconnaissance among other capabilities.
