Mississippi Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith joked about going "front row" to a "public hanging" in a video posted to Twitter on Sunday morning, prompting her opponent to call her comment "reprehensible.""If he invited me to a public hanging, I'd be on the front row," the senator is heard saying in the video.Hyde-Smith faces former Democratic Rep. Mike Espy in a runoff election on November 27 for the Mississippi Senate seat. The runoff election was triggered when neither she nor Espy received more than 50% of the vote total on November 6.Hyde-Smith was appointed in April to fill the seat vacated by longtime Republican Sen. Thad Cochran, who stepped down due to health reasons. She became the first female senator to represent the state. In the video, Hyde-Smith appeared to be speaking during a campaign event about the support of a Mississippi rancher. The line drew applause and laughter from the crowd. The short video clip was met with immediate backlash online and had more than 2 million page views as of late Sunday night. 1043
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - National City Treasurer Mitchel Beauchamp is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty Tuesday, including unlawfully trapping skunks and opossums.Court records obtained by 10News indicate the San Diego County District Attorney’s office believes Beauchamp maliciously and intentionally maimed, mutilated, tortured, wounded and killed an animal.Beauchamp told 10News he had a pest problem. He invited our crew into his yard to show us the humane trap he had been using. He also showed the crew where animals were moving from the canyon into his yard.According to County Animal Services, residents are allowed to relocate skunks and possums within a mile from their homes using a humane trap. Experts say the best way to keep pests out of your yard is to keep the area clean and don’t set out food. They recommend you hire a humane professional or learn to live with the animals.Beauchamp could be sentenced to up to one year in jail if convicted on all six counts. 1007

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Joe Biden will not be traveling to Milwaukee to accept the Democratic presidential nomination, the Democratic National Convention Committee announced Wednesday. The DNCC said Biden would not be accepting the nomination at the Democratic National Convention, which is scheduled to begin on Aug. 17, citing coronavirus as the reason.Other speakers for the DNC will also no longer travel to Milwaukee. That’s the kind of steady and responsible leadership America deserves. And that’s the leadership Joe Biden will bring to the White House,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez in a press release.“2020 will always be remembered as a year of once-in-a-lifetime challenges and changes—but it will also be remembered as a time when Americans were their most compassionate and resilient selves. While we wish we could move forward with welcoming the world to beautiful Milwaukee in two weeks, we recognize protecting the health of our host community and everyone involved with this convention must be paramount,” said Joe Solmonese, CEO of the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The convention is scheduled to take place at the Wisconsin Center Aug. 17 through Aug. 20. 1481

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A National City family was shocked Monday when they showed up at their business and noticed someone broke-in and vandalized their business. Dulce Tablas' parents own Diva's Fashion 2 in National City, a store in which they sell formal clothing like ball gowns and tuxedos. The family also owns a banquet hall and a second clothing store. The family showed up to find their storefront window broken, glass all over the ground and a designer quincea?era dress, worth over 0, gone. The person who took the dress grabbed it from the mannequin. Tablas says it will cost the family over ,000 to fix the window. The family is wondering if they were targeted. Last week, during the Black Lives Matter protests, they decided to paint the phrase on their windows. After the break-in, Tablas said she noticed the phrase had an "X" through it. The break-in came on the same day the family decided to close down one of their locations, not able to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic. The business that was vandalized is the one staying open. The family also says they had insurance and surveillance cameras but they had cut the expense in April since they were closed due to the pandemic. Tablas mom tells 10News it is a move she now regrets. Diva's Fashion 2 now has a fundraising page on Facebook, to help the family with the repairs for the window. If you'd like to donate, click here. The crime was reported to National City Police. 1470
