"The comedic value I got was thinking about the time that they gambled with their life to get the amount that they did, and drilling that safe open and seeing the dollars that was in there. That's the best part."Surveillance video shows two men with baggy pants force their way into the bar Monday at 3:07 a.m. One tries unsuccessfully to pry open a cash register, then joins his partner in a back room where the two grab the safes. While leaving, they fumble the safes and nearly drop their drawers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — America's Finest City is also considered America's friendliest city, according to a recent survey by OfferUp.San Diego ranked first on the list of friendliest U.S. cities with 80% of users of the mobile marketplace app, OfferUp's 2019 Good Neighbor Report said. The national average of users rated friendly by another user was 75% in comparison.Between Sept. 12-16, the site surveyed more than 2,000 people who use the marketplace app in their communities. When asked how political beliefs affect interactions, more than 60% said their political affiliation never affects their relationships with neighbors.And despite social media, 21% of respondents say they always communicate in-person with neighbors. About 30% said they do so often and 29% said sometimes. About 67% also said they have never avoided a neighbor on purpose."The results affirm the thousands of stories we’ve heard from people across the country who have built meaningful bonds with neighbors through our marketplace," the survey said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A teacher at a middle school in Vista says a look inside her classroom reveals her concerns about the lack of social distancing.Laura Whitehouse’s classroom at Rancho Minerva Middle school. The history teacher has been at the school for seven years, and for the first time, she is anxious about going to school."It’s frightening. It’s frightening," said Whitehouse.She says her fears stem from the lack of social distancing. Her classes have 34 kids, with two kids sitting at each table right next to each other."Distance between each table is about two feet. They’re just on top of each other," said Whitehouse.Whitehouse says the kids are supposed to wear masks, but she sometimes has to remind them to put their masks on, and to maintain social distance."They want to clump together. They want to go to each other’s desk," said Whitehouse.After a few days of in-person learning, Whitehouse on Tuesday received plexiglass for her desk and a HEPA air purifier, but she worries it’s not close to being enough. She says there’s no cleaning between classes, as new students rotate in."The germs that are accumulating are just crazy," said Whitehouse.Amid her concerns, there have been at least four positive COVID-19 cases in the Vista Unified School District, sparking new rules about what will trigger a school to revert to distance learning.Whitehouse, who has asthma, says the new rules don’t address what’s putting her and her students most at risk."I am afraid for them. I just want them and their families to be healthy," said Whitehouse.She’s hoping for more cleaning, and more hybrid learning to reduce the number of kids in the classroom."The fear is this is just going to continue to get worse," said Whitehouse.The teachers union tells ABC 10News they are preparing an OSHA complaint detailing the classroom conditions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman in Carmel Valley is warning others after she saw a man masturbating in public late Wednesday night. The woman, who didn't want to be identified, said she was doing a late-night load of laundry when she saw a man in a sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over his face and no pants on masturbating. The incident happened at an apartment complex near Seabreeze Farms Drive and Carmel Knolls Drive. “When I screamed ‘oh my god’ he didn’t budge, he didn’t move, he didn’t even look up at me. He just kept doing what he was doing,” she said. “He didn’t run, he just was in his, he was so comfortable.” She reported it to police and management and was told the same thing happened to another neighbor last week. Police told 10News they are investigating.  818

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting an elderly woman at a Central Coast beach parking lot in San Luis Obispo, law officials said.Morro Bay Police Officers responded to a disturbance call at around 1 p.m. at the Morro Rock parking lot on Coleman Drive, authorities said.Witnesses told officers that the suspect assaulted an elderly woman and knocked her to the ground. Numerous people witnessed the attack and went to help the victim, according to police.Officials said the woman was treated by first responders for moderate injuries.In a press release, officials said Brian Robert Sprinkle, 39, of La Jolla, "was participating in a surf competition when he exited the water and assaulted the woman without provocation."Sprinkle was booked in the San Luis Obispo County Jail on felony charges of elder abuse and battery, according to Morro Bay police.Officers also found a firearm with Sprinkle's property and seized it.It is believed the suspect was under the influence of marijuana and hallucinogenic drugs, police said in a statement.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Morro Bay Police Department (805) 772-6225.While police say Sprinkle was taking part in the Big, Bad and Ugly surf competition, surf contest organizers tell KSBY News he was not registered with the contest and is not affiliated with any of the surf clubs that participated.ABC 10News affiliate KSBY News contributed to this report. 1497
