Speaking to the press, Encinitas Lifeguard Captain Larry Giles said the site around the collapse will remain taped off from the public as crews continue to assess the stability of the rock."From what we've learned this morning ... the area's still active. [Geotechnical consultant] is concerned about the areas to the side of the current failure failing," Giles said. "The failure is not affecting the structures up top. (KGTV) — An 8-year-old child was killed Friday after being hit by a vehicle while walking with family in Fallbrook.The child was walking across the entrance to a parking lot on Heald Lane at about 6:30 p.m., when a vehicle turned into the parking lot and struck the child, according to California Highway Patrol.Paramedics arrived rushed the child to Rady Children's Hospital, however, the 8-year-old died on the way to the hospital.Two family members were with the child when the crash occurred. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 58-year-old woman, remained at the scene.Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor, CHP said.The child and driver were not immediately identified. 746
