After massive immigration raid near Morton, Mississippi, the community seems split on the issue.“It’s creating division,” resident Sidney Overby says. “I believe that we do not need to divide the people that are here.”Outside a local Walmart, one woman says she’s happy about the raids. “It’s a good thing to get the illegals out of the country,” says one woman outside a local Walmart. “If you want to come here legally, than by all means do that, but don’t try to come here illegally.”During the immigration raids in Mississippi, 680 arrests were made, which was the largest in a decade on U.S. soil.“Some families don’t know about their families,” says resident Leslyn Cazares. “The kids are crying for their dad and mom.”Cazares says her uncle and aunt are two of the hundreds of people now facing deportation.“Why can people can do that?” she asks about the arrests. “The people don’t do anything. They come here for work for their family.”Many of those taken away by immigration officials worked at the Koch’s Foods Processing plant. “Kids come home and they don’t where they parents and they don’t how they’re going to survive,” says a man who says he’s worked at Koch’s for 13 years. He went on to say these raids have impacted productivity.“Wasn’t nobody at work; the plant was empty,” he says. “Most of the plant is Mexican, and without them being there they overworked a lot of the people, the blacks and the whites.”Black, white, and brown, some say the only color that really matters is green. “It’s like everybody disappeared; it’s like a ghost town,” says grocery store owner Juan Garcia. “You don’t see a lot of people outside.”Garcia says his business is suffering because the raids have taken away many of his customers, and that the ones left are too scared to come out and shop.“I feel pretty bad because the same thing happened about 10 years ago when we were in Laurel,” he says of another city in Mississippi. “It was bad for the business over there and it’s going to bad over here, too.” Garcia recorded cell phone video of the raid, which showed buses used to remove alleged undocumented immigrants from the Koch’s property. Something some people in this small town quietly support.“[I'm] glad they done it,” says a man, who did not want to be identified. “It was a long time overdue. I’m just wondering why they didn’t hit Tyson.”Whether in support or opposed to the raid, those hit the hardest are calling to a higher power.At Saint Martin Mission, the first Sunday service since the raid was dedicated to those affected by the operation.“Some of our church leaders, members of the choir, different ministers were taken by the raids,” Father Roberto Mena says.Father Mena says faith has taken a hit in Morton.So, while preaching from the pulpit, he’s asked those in power to have a compassionate heart for the immigrants. “A lot of the children, they were going to be kept away from their parents and that breaks my heart,” he says. She’s been shooting since she was 5 years old. She got her first deer with this weapon at 9. She carries it responsibly. She knows how not to put her finger on the trigger. We live in fear in a society that is fed fear on a daily basis.”He said Bailey was an example of someone who could responsibly handle a gun, and lawmakers should extend that to non-residents.“When they come to Idaho, they should be able to carry concealed, because they carry responsibly,” he said. “They’re law-abiding citizens. It’s the criminal we have to worry about.”Republican Rep. Christy Zito, who is proposing the measure opposed by the three Democrats on the House State Affairs Committee, said the legislation is intended to clear up confusion about state gun laws. Backers also say it will give people the ability to defend themselves if needed.Idaho residents 18 and older are allowed to carry a concealed handgun within city limits in Idaho without a permit or training following a new law that went into place last summer. The legislation would extend that to any legal resident of the United States or a U.S. armed services member.“I stand here before you today as a mother and grandmother who has had to use a firearm to defend their child,” Zito said. She said two men once approached her vehicle with her daughter inside.“Even though I didn’t have to pull the trigger, just the fact that they could see it, and they knew that I had it, was the determining factor,” Zito said.Opponents say allowing teenagers to carry a concealed weapon without any required training within city limits is a bad idea and could lead to shootings. A migrant shelter in Tornillo, Texas that's housed thousands of children may close next month.A tent-like facility in Texas that houses unaccompanied migrant children may close next month after they are all released to parents or sponsors in the US. That's according to an official who spoke with several news outlets, including CNN and CBS News.The migrant shelter is located near the Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry and operated by BCFS, a nonprofit that operates health and human services programs. The shelter opened this past summer with a capacity of about 300 people. Now, it reportedly houses between 2,400 to 2,800 children. The official told news outlets the facility will no longer accept children and will close after the last child is released to either a sponsor or another facility run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The federal government's contract with BCFS will expire on December 31st, and the source says the non-profit does not plan to extend it.An exact closing date for the facility has not yet been announced. A night of excess at a Pittsburgh apartment ended with three people dead, four people hospitalized and a police department warning how quickly drugs can kill.Authorities responded to a report of an unconscious man in an apartment complex elevator around 2 a.m. Sunday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Pittsburgh Director of Public Safety Wendell Hissrich said.Shortly later, paramedics responded to another man a few blocks away, outside, who was "somewhat conscious" and had symptoms similar to those of the first man. He was taken to a nearby hospital, Hissrich said.Police traced both men back to an apartment on the city's south side. There, they found five other people who also apparently overdosed.Hissrich said he believed the victims were men between about 30 and 50 years old."The victims -- including three people who died and four who remain hospitalized -- appear to have been at the same venue together, and then to have gone to a second location at a private residence where they apparently overdosed on drugs," 1049

The study was conducted by the University of California, Irvine.The researchers warn that fake news could have a sizable impact on elections.The researchers used six news stories, four real and two fake, involving last year's Irish referendum on abortion legalization. The researchers presented these news stories to voters.The study found that nearly half of the respondents were able to recall fake information, sometimes in vivid detail. Those who supported the referendum were more likely to remember a falsehood about those in opposition; those in opposition to the referendum were also more like to remember a falsehood about referendum supporters. Many participants didn't reconsider when being told some of the information was in correct. Researchers say that believing false information is simply part of human nature. “To some degree this is unavoidable," Cailin O'Connor, UC Irvine Associate Professor in the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science, said.
