(KGTV) - A professor who made disparaging racial remarks toward a student may be returning to the San Diego State University campus after a forced hiatus.Professor Oscar Monge is scheduled to teach three writing classes in the American Indian Students department for Fall 2018, according to registration records.Monge was suspended in the beginning of 2018 after the California Attorney General's Office said he made discriminatory remarks toward a white student.He referred to white student as a "white savior," a black student as an "Uncle Tom," and another as a "Cherokee princess" according to a state investigator’s report.RELATED: Professor makes?"racial insensitive" remarksA spokesperson for SDSU provided a statement to 10News:“A faculty listing does not constitute a confirmed appointment. The university will begin to process temporary faculty appointments for Fall 2018 during the month of July."Crystal Sudano, one of the students who Monge made comments toward, said this is bad idea.“How much more abuse is San Diego State going to take?” said Sudano, “He’s got everybody by the gonads and everybody’s afraid to do anything.”Monge is currently on administrative leave and has not returned multiple requests by 10News for comment. 1297

(KGTV) -- Firefighters battling the Carr Fire went beyond the call of duty, taking care of a fish left behind by a family forced to evacuate.According to a tweet from Cal Fire, a father informed his daughter that their fish most likely didn’t survive.When they arrived home, they were greeted with a well-fed fish and a note from the firefighters.The note reads, “Fed your fish a few sprinkles. Sorry if we weren’t supposed to.” As of Sunday morning, the tweet had racked up more than 10,000 likes and retweets. 519

(KGTV) — Bombshell testimony was dropped on the third day of a Navy SEAL's trial over the fatal stabbing an injured teenage ISIS combatant in Iraq.Navy SEAL Special Operator First Class Corey Scott testified Thursday that he was responsible for the teen's death, not fellow SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher, who is accused of murdering the injured fighter after he was captured.Scott told the court that he held down the teen's breathing tube so that he couldn't breathe after seeing Gallagher stab the combatant. RELATED: Witness: Navy SEAL called dead prisoner an 'ISIS dirt bag'He added “he knew he was going to die” and didn't want the teen to suffer or be tortured, so he held his thumb over the teen's tracheal tube and suffocated him. Scott said his actions took place immediately after Gallagher stabbed the injured teen under the collar bone.During cross-examination, Scott told the court he doesn't want to see Gallagher go to jail or his family endure any further harm from the trial.Scott was deployed with the Navy Chief in 2017.RELATED: Prosecutor: Navy SEAL bragged he 'got' victim with knifeProsecutors say Scott cannot be persecuted for his testimony on the stand, but he can be prosecuted for perjury. A military spokesman told the Associated Press prosecutors will likely continue their case against Gallagher despite Scott's testimony.Scott had met with prosecutors and the defense on multiple occasions prior to his testimony, but Thursday was the first time he revealed his account of the events leading to the ISIS teen's death.Gallagher has been accused in the teen's murder on May 3, 2017, in Mosul, Iraq, and for shooting at Iraqi civilians several times. (KGTV) - California regulators are considering a plan to charge a fee for text messaging on mobile phones to help fund programs that make phone service accessible to the poor.The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is set to consider the proposal in a vote scheduled for next month, according to The Mercury News. It's not clear how much mobile phone users would be asked to pay under the proposal, but it would likely be billed as a flat surcharge, not a per-text fee, according to the paper.And wireless industry and business groups are not "LOLing." The groups are reportedly already trying to defeat the proposal before it makes its way to the commission.“It’s a dumb idea,” Jim Wunderman, president of the Bay Area Council business-sponsored advocacy group, told the Mercury News. “This is how conversations take place in this day and age, and it’s almost like saying there should be a tax on the conversations we have.”The new surcharges could generate a total of about .5 million a year, according to business groups.
