With just five Democratic Party hopefuls for president left, two candidates emerged as clear frontrunners on a crucial night dubbed as “Super Tuesday.” Joe Biden, ex-President Barack Obama’s two-term vice president, asserted himself as a real contender to take the Democratic nomination. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who attained frontrunner status after winning races in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, is now locked into a battle with Biden. Meanwhile, the campaigns of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg are in question. While Warren’s campaign presses on by adding several campaign events later in the week, Warren did not finish in the Top 2 in any of the 14 states up for grabs on Tuesday, including her home state of Massachusetts. Meanwhile, representatives for Bloomberg said that the candidate is returning to NYC to reassess his campaign. Bloomberg’s only victory on Tuesday came from the tiny US territory of American Samoa, which only had six delegates up for grabs. Also grabbing a delegate from the Pacific island was Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who was born on the island. The delegate was her first of the campaign. Bloomberg campaign manager Kevin Sheekey said that in the campaign's opinion, there is still time for Bloomberg to make up ground. This comes after Bloomberg sat out the first four nominating races. "Tonight, only one-third of delegates will be allotted," Sheekey said. "As Mike said tonight, 'No matter how many delegates we win tonight, we have done something no one else thought was possible.’ In just three months, we've gone from just 1% in the polls to being a contender for the Democratic nomination."The night started out great for Biden, as races in North Carolina, Virginia and Alabama were called early in the evening. He then went on to win in Tennessee, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Massachusetts. While Biden won at least eight of 14 states on Tuesday, Sanders won the largest delegate prize of the night California. As of 2:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, only the race in Maine remains uncalled.Even before the polls closed in California, Sanders used his rally on Tuesday to contrast his record with Biden. “We're going to beat Trump because this will become a contrast in ideas,” he said. “One of us in this race led the opposition to the war in Iraq. (CNN) -- A high school principal has died after going to the hospital to donate bone marrow to try to save the life of a 14-year-old in France.Derrick Nelson, principal of Westfield High School in New Jersey, died unexpectedly Sunday night, according to school officials. His fiancée, Sheronda Braker, said that Nelson suffered complications after his bone marrow donation.The school's newspaper reported in February that Nelson decided to donate his bone marrow to a boy in France after being contacted by Be the Match. The national bone marrow donor program told him that his blood might be a match."If it's just a little bit of pain for a little bit of time that can give someone years of joy, it's all worth it," Nelson told the paper then.In a statement to CNN, Braker said Nelson "was a tremendous father to our beloved daughter Morgan and the best companion and life partner I could have ever asked for.""He loved his family almost beyond belief. He was a man who carried himself with dignity, courage and compassion," she continued. "His last kind and generous act on this earth in giving so someone else might live is a true testament to who he was and how he should always be remembered. We will always love him."in a letter to parents, Westfield Public Schools Superintendent Margaret Dolan said, "Dr. Nelson touched us all with his kindness, compassion, integrity, and endlessly positive attitude. "I had not been in contact with him recently. That's why it was such a shock. ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was injured at a Valencia Park home after a small explosion that police say could be drug-related. San Diego Police responded to a home on the 700 block of Valencia Parkway and transported a 38-year-old man to the hospital. According to police, it appeared he was holding an object that exploded, causing shrapnel-type injuries to his face, chest, and arm. San Diego Fire-Rescue's Hazardous Materials team and a bomb squad were called to the scene. An investigation is ongoing as to what caused the explosion. Police said there was some evidence of materials that might be related to the manufacturing of narcotics found in the home, but could not confirm that was the cause of the blast. Police say it happened in the backyard area of the home. The man was alone at the time, though two children live in the house. Police did not clarify the man's relationship with the kids. The man has not been identified. He's expected to survive. No arrests were made. 994
