SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting this month, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park will begin requiring ticket reservations for all guests.The two parks have avoided requiring ticket reservations since reopening as an outdoor attraction last June. SeaWorld San Diego and LEGOLAND California have reopened in more limited capacities and have required reserved tickets for guests.Starting Dec. 5, the two zoos will begin to require a reservation for guests. San Diego Zoo Global says the change will be in addition to health screenings and safety measures already implemented throughout the park."Due to COVID-19, in order to keep our community safe during this time and in anticipation of high demand, the San Diego Zoo will implement a reservation system required for entry," the zoo's website reads.Ticket reservations will be required for all visitors ages 3 and older. San Diego Zoo members will need to make a reservation to visit ahead of time as well. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified is fast-tracking several security-related upgrades on several schools.The first upgrade started this week at Miramar Ranch Elementary school, where a new, taller perimeter fence was installed.The district made the decision last week to prioritize roughly -million worth of projects.  They will be paid for by a voter-approved bond measure. The plans were already on the district's to-do list, but they now moved up the schedule.A district spokeswoman says it is in response to the climate plaguing classrooms across America, where school safety and security are front and center.  Campus security has been under heavy scrutiny following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.“Of course we are worried about school security in the wake of all the shootings,” Diane Hunter, a Miramar Ranch Elementary parent said,  “It’s a naughty problem because we want to balance logistics and ease of access for parents and volunteers, but we also want our kids to be safe.  So I’m glad that the school is taking a look at it and making improvements."The list of projects includes adding and upgrading things like fences, door locks and gate, visitor access control, site radios and security cameras.A timeline for the projects in the individual schools was not readily available.  1380

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - SDG&E says the company is ready to meet increased demand over the next few decades, as temperatures rise across California.According to a recent climatology study, the number of days in San Diego where the heat index will top 100 degrees is expected to jump to 4 per year by 2050. The study says it will be at 7 per year by 2100. By contrast, historically, San Diego has averaged less than one day per year above 100 degrees.That means more people will turn to air conditioners and fans to keep cool, creating more demand for energy throughout the year."This is one of our top priorities," says SDG&E Communications Director Denice Menard. "We know the summertime surge is coming."Menard says SDG&E engineers have run thousands of simulations to test the power grid. The company has also invested heavily in solar and wind turbine energy to increase supply.Menard also says the new 15-mile transmission line from Sycamore to Penasquitos will help deliver energy to areas that need it. And a new synchronous condenser in the North County will help manage surges in demand."There have been so many preparations and simulations done by our engineers," Menard says. "We’ve done everything we can to make sure we’re prepared and that San Diego is safe and can beat the heat."SDG&E is also looking to their customers for help. The company hopes their new Time of Use plans will encourage people to avoid energy use from 4-9 pm, when the temperatures are highest and more people are home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Since a movie theater was first added to Horton Plaza in 1985, San Diegans downtown have had cinema options at their fingertips.That is, until the plaza fell on tough times, as business slowed and patrons gained more options for retail and entertainment downtown.The trend has now reached the plaza's Regal movie theater, which closed its doors this year.
