KHARTOUM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Karti said on Friday his visit to China carried reassurances and confirmations to the Chinese side his government keenness to enhance cooperation with China even after a referendum to be held in southern Sudan."We have delivered a message on our keenness on continuation in enhancing the cooperation with China and expanding its investments in the country, particularly in north Sudan," Karti told reporters at Khartoum airport today upon return from a tour that included China and Egypt."China is an important country for Sudan and we are keen to fully coordinate with it, particularly with regard to current international issues. We are expecting China to play an important role in the international meeting on Sudan, scheduled for September 24, 2010," he added.He further stressed that Sudan was looking forward to enhancing ties with China, saying that "I have held consultations with the Chinese leadership on many issues and we have agreed on coordination during the forthcoming meetings of the United Nations General Assembly."The Sudanese minister described his visit to China as "one of the best official visits," adding that "we have managed to convey our viewpoint on many issues that has received complete response on the part of the Chinese leadership."On January 9, 2011, the southern Sudanese are expected to vote in a referendum on self-determination for southern Sudan to opt between unity or separation according to the provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), inked between north and south Sudan in 2005, and the Sudanese Constitution.The referendum would be considered legal if fifty eight percent of the registered voters participated in the referendum, and if the quorum was incomplete, there would be re-voting with the same terms in 60 days of the announcement of the referendum result.The result of the referendum would be decided by a simple majority of fifty percent plus one of the votes.

LISBON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao concluded his state visit to Portugal on Sunday and has left the Portuguese capital of Lisbon for home.The president arrived in Lisbon on Saturday after a three-day state visit to France that began on Thursday.In Lisbon, Hu had talks with Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and met other Portuguese leaders, exchanging views on how to deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation. BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature Sunday initiated a nationwide inspection over Agricultural Techniques Promotion Law in an effort to boost the development of the country's vast rural area while ensuring the nation's food security.Three inspection teams from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) will travel to six provinces and municipalities for supervision of the inspection in late August and September. Another eight teams from provincial level legislatures will be authorized to supervise the enforcement of the Agricultural Techniques Promotion Law and the Seed Law.Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said the inspection teams should push local governments forward to pay more attention to popularizing agricultural techniques, transform techniques into increased agricultural output and raise the incomes of farmers.Promoting agricultural techniques and increasing technology's contribution to agricultural development is the fundamental method to resolve the agricultural difficulties caused by limited resources and markets in China, said Uyunqimg, Vice Chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee.The Agricultural Techniques Promotion Law was passed by the top legislature and began to be put into use in 1993, which aims at promoting more adoption of scientific and technological achievements in agricultural production to assure the modernization of the nation's agriculture.Statistics show the ratio of scientific and technological contributions to agricultural growth in China has increased from 26 percent in 1993 to 51 percent in 2009.

TOKYO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku said Friday that China and Japan, the two major economic powers in Asia, need to work toward improving bilateral relations."It is true that Japan-China relations have shown signs of deterioration," Sengoku, Japan's top government spokesman, said at a press conference, adding that efforts were needed to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.The comments came as the Naha, Okinawa, prosecutor's office said Friday it will release Zhan Qixiong, the 41-year-old Chinese fishing boat captain who has been held for more than two weeks.Two Japan Coast Guard patrol ships and a Chinese trawler collided in waters off China's Diaoyu Islands on Spet. 7.The next day, the Japan Coast Guard illegally seized the Chinese trawler and detained its captain and 14 fishermen on board, drawing strong protests from the Chinese government and its people.The Japanese released the fishermen and boat last week but held the captain. China has repeatedly urged Japan to unconditionally send back the captain to avoid additional damage to their bilateral ties.According to local media, Zhan was to leave Japan on Friday. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said the same day the Chinese government would send a chartered plane to bring back the captain.
