Critics are calling Sinclair's promos pro-Trump propaganda. Now the company is defending the initiative, and calling it something much more mundane: A "corporate news journalistic responsibility promotional campaign."Sinclair, America's largest operator of local TV stations, is in the spotlight after a controversial promo video went viral over the weekend.Some staffers say they're embarrassed by the promos and concerned about their own credibility as journalists. A few local anchors and reporters are even reacting publicly, risking the ire of management.But Sinclair senior vice president of news Scott Livingston is defending the promos as a "well-researched journalistic initiative focused on fair and objective reporting."In an internal memo obtained by CNNMoney, Livingston slammed what he called "misleading, often defamatory stories" about the company. Some of the language echoes President Trump's anti-media messaging. Coronavirus cases have forced the postponement or cancelation of 10 college football games this weekend.Out of the 10 games, only one involved a Top 25 team. No. 10 Wisconsin has canceled its game against Purdue, marking the second weekend in a row the Badgers have not played. In recent weeks, Wisconsin announced a total of 27 virus cases among players and staff.The postponements and cancelations mark the most games disrupted due to the virus.While not postponed or canceled, the top college football game of the weekend, Clemson vs Notre Dame, will be played without Heisman Trophy candidate Trevor Lawrence. Cited under Arizona's Stupid Motorist Law and slammed with four tickets, a Scottsdale man who drove into deep water learned a lesson Sunday night.Cooper Moore, 20, said he was close to home and he did not see how deep the water was in the roadway, so he decided to drive through the barricades in place. RELATED: How much water does it take to wash a car away?Moore said he quickly realized that was a mistake when the water reached halfway up his tires. "I just thought it was more convenient going through this and I didn't think...I didn't see how powerful the water was at the time," Moore explained. "And when I got to that point where my car is, I tried to go in reverse, but it stalled and my engine just shut off and I needed to get rescued."Moore said he escaped out the window and sat on his car while he waited for help to arrive. He said they walked him to safety but then handed him four tickets. Moore said while he understands what he did was wrong, he thinks rescue crews were a little harsh with him."I think they gave me a little too many consequences for that," Moore said. "And they said that I brought a lot of people out there and it was a Sunday night and I understand that I may have ruined some people's nights, but it's just a small mistake."Under Arizona's Stupid Motorist Law, a driver can be forced to reimburse rescue crews for their efforts to get a person to safety if they ignored barricades. Community Health Centers that care for hundreds of thousands of low-income San Diegans are bracing for deep cuts. Congress has to act by Sept. 30 to maintain the funds to the centers, or services will start to decrease."This conversation is, do you have a doctor when you need one, who will see you?" said Vernita Todd, Vice President of Health Center Partners of Southern California, an association of 17 health centers in San Diego, Imperial and Riverside counties. The centers are concerned about million of federal money that Congress has yet to renew. The money goes to lower the cost of services like primary care, vaccinations, cancer screenings and physicals. It can help turn a visit that would normally cost 0 into a visit. "If they can't afford it, does that mean they'll forego treatment? Will they forego going to the doctor? Will they skip vaccinations for their children?" Todd said. Earlier this month, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-NY, introduced a bill to continue the funding for community health centers. It has 13 bipartisan supporters. Her spokesman says she's exploring different ways to move the legislation forward. Todd says she's not concerned the bill wouldn't pass. She just wants it to come up for a vote. But she's worried Congress isn't paying attention to the health center needs because it's focused on issues like Hurricane recovery, repealing the Affordable Care Act, and Immigration. She says the centers would start taking hits Oct. 1, when money for a program that essentially gets doctors to health centers dries up.Then, on Jan. 1, they would lose the biggest lump sum, which could lead to layoffs, closures, and fewer services. There are six San Diego health center locations, including City Heights, San Ysidro, and Vista. COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Scientists say an enormous chunk of Greenland's ice cap, estimated to be about 110 square kilometers (42.3 square miles), has broken off in the far northeastern Arctic. They see it as evidence of rapid climate change, which is leading to the disintegration of the Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf. The section broke off a 50-mile long fjord at the front end of the Northeast Greenland Ice Stream, where it flows off the land and into the ocean. One scientist says "we should be very concerned" about the ice loss. In August, a study showed that Greenland lost a record amount of ice during an extra warm 2019. 648
