SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A public hearing regarding the proposed placement of a convicted sex offender at a supervised home in Pauma Valley is scheduled for July 31, officials said today.Joseph Bocklett, 75, was convicted of three sexual offenses over a 19- year period involving victims between the ages of 4 and 9, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. He was last sentenced in 2000 to a 17-year prison term and later civilly committed to Coalinga State Hospital to undergo treatment.Bocklett is classified as a Sexually Violent Predator, a designation for those convicted of sexually violent offenses and diagnosed with a mental disorder that makes them a danger to the public.Bocklett petitioned the court last year to be granted release into the Conditional Release program and on Monday, the Department of State Hospitals proposed that Bocklett be housed at 15077 Adams Drive.Sexually Violent Predators are monitored via GPS ankle devices and are typically placed in low population areas.Members of the public may submit comments regarding the proposed placement location until July 14. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A La Jolla restaurant owner raped eight women who he either drugged or knew were too intoxicated to consent to sex, a prosecutor said Tuesday, while a defense attorney argued none of the charged sex acts were forced upon the alleged victims, nor was there any evidence that any of the women were drugged.Jurors on Tuesday began deliberating the fate of Daniel Dorado, who is charged with 35 felonies, including rape of an unconscious person and rape of an intoxicated person. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman robbed a San Diego vape and smoke shop at gunpoint and was later arrested, authorities said Saturday.It happened just before 10 p.m. Friday at the shop at 3094 National Avenue, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The woman walked in, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money, Heims said. She took an unknown amount of money and fled eastbound on National Avenue.Officers located the suspect a few hours later near South 32nd Street and arrested her, he said.The suspect was identified as Jeanette Sarmiento, 37, Heims said. 579

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of fatally beating a fellow transient with a mini sledgehammer as the two argued along a Midway District street was ordered Monday to stand trial on a murder charge.Greg Repp Jennings, 53, is accused in the Jan. 8, 2018, slaying of 37- year-old Michael Anthony Dean, who was struck several times in the head with a four-pound hammer.First responders found Dean lying face-up in the street with his face "caved in," according to preliminary hearing testimony. He was pronounced dead at the scene, near 3805 Midway Drive.According to testimony from SDPD Detective Sgt. Christopher Leahy, one witness told investigators that an argument sparked the killing, which began when Jennings was talking loudly at a bus stop. Dean, who was also sitting at the bus stop, asked Jennings to "tone it down," angering the defendant, who told him "it was his First Amendment right and he wasn't going to shut up," Leahy said.Other witnesses also saw the men arguing and then saw Dean fall into the street, at which point Jennings allegedly struck him with the hammer multiple times.Jennings told investigators that he acted in self-defense, according to testimony. He alleged Dean had tied a pair of workboots together by the laces and was going to use the improvised weapon to attack him.Jennings remained at the scene and was arrested by responding officers.The defendant remains in custody without bail. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An 18-year-old man was shot twice in the stomach during an armed robbery early Thursday morning in a Mission Beach parking lot, police said.Two 18-year-old men were in a car leaving a party at the Bahia Resort Hotel, 998 West Mission Bay Drive, when they were approached by two men on foot in a public parking lot on Gleason Road at around 12:30 a.m.One of the men on foot pulled out a gun and pointed it at the pair in the car while demanding items from them, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said. The victims got out of the car and the man with the gun stole a chain necklace from one of the victims.The other victim tackled the gunman and was shot twice in the stomach, the officer said.The suspects fled in an unknown vehicle and the victim who had his necklace stolen drove the gunshot victim to a hospital for treatment of his wounds, Heims said. The gunshot victim underwent surgery, but an update on his status was not immediately available.A detailed description of the suspects was not immediately available. 1061
