SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Just in time for the Fourth of July, the Mission Beach Plunge pool is reopening to the public. The iconic pool was one of the original attractions when the amusement park opened in 1925. However, it had run into hard times in recent years and has been closed for much of the last decade. One management company went bankrupt. The next came up with a renovation plan, only to discover dangerous, corroding conditions inside, leading to the pool's closure in 2014.Thanks to a partnership between the City of San Diego, Fit Athletic, and Pacifica Enterprises, the renovated pool is almost unrecognizable. "This is absolutely special, incredible," said Dr. McQuary, a longtime San Diego resident who is active in the community."What I remember about the Plunge was the issues and concerns about how we can swim and still be safe. When things would fall from the sky, it wasn't rain; it was the plaster from the ceiling!"The Plunge at Fit features floor to wall glass ceilings and a retractable roof. It also incorporates some of the building's original features, replicating the tiling and original archways.Part of the new Fit Athletic Mission Beach gym, the facility also offers beach views throughout. High tide is set to happen at 9 a.m. with low tide set to take place around 4:10 p.m., according to tide charts. King tides occur when there is an alignment of the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon. The company claimed in a press release it’s exploring several options to “maximize shareholder value.”Several of the options include the sale of the company or a previously announced plan to increase its leverage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Local health officials said Thursday a new case of vaping-related lung injury has been reported, as county leaders prepare to consider new vaping regulations.So far in San Diego, there have been 43 confirmed cases of vaping-associated lung injury with three cases under investigation. There haven't been any local deaths, but all patients have had to be hospitalized. Those affected range in age from 17 to 70 years old, according to the county.The CDC has said that vitamin E acetate and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are closely linked with e-cigarette, or vaping, associated lung injury. CDC recommends people avoid using THC-containing e-cigarettes or vaping products.RELATED: San Diego woman hospitalized with vaping illness warns others“Vaping-related lung injuries continue to be reported in the region and that’s concerning,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer.As of Jan. 7, the CDC has reported 2,602 hospitalizations or deaths from sudden and severe lung injuries associated with vaping.The San Diego County Board of Supervisors is set to discuss several potential local actions on regulating e-cigarette devices during a Jan. 14 meeting. Those ordinances include a ban on flavored tobacco sale and distribution, device moratorium, and restricting e-cigarette smoking to outdoor areas at restaurant. The ordinances would apply to unincorporated parts of the county.“As stewards of public health; we have a responsibility to raise awareness and act in the best interest of the public to protect them,” said Supervisor Fletcher. “Right now we simply do not know enough about the chemicals being consumed and their impacts. We are acting in a similar fashion to other jurisdictions in California, we are acting with an abundance of caution.” A second meeting on the ordinances will be held on Jan. 28.
