BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China Thursday expressed its hope that East Asian cooperation would deepen through the upcoming series of leaders' meetings in Hanoi, Vietnam."China attaches importance to and actively takes part in East Asian cooperation. In the series of meetings, China will review with other countries the cooperation that has been carried out and discuss how to further promote the integration process of East Asian cooperation," said Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue.Hu made the remarks at a press conference Thursday afternoon in which officials from the ministries of Commerce, Education and Finance briefed the press on Premier Wen Jiabao's scheduled attendance at the meetings.The meetings, lasting from Oct. 28 to 30, will include: the 13th summit between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (10+1); the 13th summit between ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) (10+3); and the fifth East Asia Summit.Wen will also attend a meeting with the leaders of Japan and the ROK.Hu said China hopes the meetings would promote good-neighborliness and boost cooperation between China and the other Asian countries."During his visit, Premier Wen, together with participating leaders of other countries, will review the achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation, 10+3 cooperation, and East Asian cooperation, as well as cooperation concerning East Asia Summit. He will also elaborate on how to strengthen cooperation. We believe his tour will further consolidate China's good-neighborly relationships and expand reciprocal cooperation," he said."East Asian countries should enhance mutual understanding through dialogue and communication. They should also create the conditions for the sound and stable development of regional cooperation and bilateral relations," Hu said.He also reaffirmed China's support for ASEAN's leading role in East Asian cooperation, saying he hopes the existing cooperation mechanisms serve the overriding goal of regional peace and prosperity.On the economic and trade cooperation front, Director of the Asian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Lu Kejian said China hopes to work with ASEAN to steadily promote the development of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) while expanding two-way investment."We will strengthen communication with ASEAN to ensure the stable development of bilateral trade, especially in the services trade. We will also continue to increase imports from ASEAN countries and boost investment. China welcomes ASEAN companies investing in China and will support Chinese companies to invest in ASEAN countries," he said.

HANOI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- A trade fair was held in Vietnam's capital city of Hanoi on Saturday with participation of companies from Vietnam and China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.At the fair, more than 100 companies from China's Guangxi brought here nearly 200 projects in various sectors including resources development, agriculture products processing, agricultural machinery production, sugar production and high technology.Ma Biao, chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region said at the fair that Guangxi and Vietnam have seen strengthened trade and economic links in recent years.Vietnam has been Guangxi's largest trade partner for eleven years, said Ma. Vietnam is also a major destination for Guangxi's outbound investment.Ma said he is confident that cooperation between Guangxi and Vietnam will be further expanded and enriched in the coming time.A total of 64 cooperation agreements were inked at the fair, with the estimated value of 1.96 billion U.S. dollars.The trade fair is part of the activities held during Ma's six- day visit in Vietnam. THATTA, Pakistan, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday visited a mobile hospital set up by a Chinese search and rescue team in south Pakistan's Thatta, commending China's relief efforts for flood victims.The 55-member Chinese rescue team have set up tents and a mobile hospital at Thatta police headquarters late Saturday to provide medical services to the flood victims after they arrived at the district, about 100 km northeast of Karachi, Sindh Province.Thatta is now the worst flood-hit district where hundreds of thousands of people have been affected. China is the first foreign country to have sent a relief team to this region."They are working for humanity of the people who are suffering water-borne diseases...That is what we require now," Malik told Xinhua with reference to the team members who are mostly experienced doctors and nurses."They have very good medical facilities and good doctors. I think that is the best China could do," Malik said."China is always the truest and good friend (of Pakistan), and I always say 'Long live the Pakistan-China friendship'," he said.China has provided a total of 120 million yuan (17.7 million U.S. dollars) worth of humanitarian supplies to Pakistan in three batches.

LISBON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao concluded his state visit to Portugal on Sunday and has left the Portuguese capital of Lisbon for home.The president arrived in Lisbon on Saturday after a three-day state visit to France that began on Thursday.In Lisbon, Hu had talks with Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and met other Portuguese leaders, exchanging views on how to deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday vowed to continue its financial support to reconstruction projects in areas ravaged by the major Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, promising lower rates on loans and demanding an easier deposit reserve requirement ratio from banks in the regions.The new pledge came in a joint statement on the website of the People's Bank of China, or the central bank, which announced the continued financial support along with the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.Banks in the quake-hit areas should continue to provide financial support and services to reconstruction projects in the regions, as post-earthquake reconstruction is still in a critical period, the statement said.The magnitude-8.0 quake, with its epicenter in Wenchuan in southwest China's Sichuan Province, left more than 87,000 people dead or missing and more than 374,640 injured. Millions of houses were also flattened during the major quake."We should keep the continuity and stability of our financial support to the regions and make our financial services better targeted and more effective," it said.According to the statement, local banks in the quake-hit areas will continue to enjoy a lower deposit reserve requirement ratio, compared with elsewhere, until June 30, 2011, and such banks will also be exempt from any hike of the reserve requirement ratio during this period.The statement ordered local bank branches in the quake-hit areas to provide prioritized financial services to projects in fields of infrastructure facilities, agriculture, medium and small enterprises, as well as ecological and environmental protection in the region.China's central bank and banking, securities and insurance regulators encourage eligible companies in the quake-hit regions to widen their finance channels through inter-bank short-term bond issuances, bills and other financial instruments, according to the statement.Also, local banks' preferential policies on loans to home reconstruction would remain unchanged in the quake-hit regions, it said.However, loans to projects with high consumption of energy and heavy pollution must be strictly controlled in a bid to facilitate energy-savings and reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the region, according to the statement.Chinese lenders had extended 172.4 billion yuan (25.35 billion U.S. dollars) loans for relief and reconstruction in regions devastated in the earthquake by the end of the first quarter, according to the central bank's figures released in May this year.Outstanding loans at banks in quake-hit provinces, including Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu, surged 34 percent year on year to 2.29 trillion yuan at the end of March.
