ENCINITAS (KGTV)-- An Encinitas man is warning other pet parents of the dangers hidden at dog parks, one almost killing his fur baby Kelly.They were at Power Lines Dog Park Thursday evening, as usual, and something caught Kelly's sniffer."She would not stop searching through there," her owner James McDonald said. She was digging in the bushes, then stopped, craddling her foot.He thought, being an active dog as she is, she strained herself."I picked her up and carried her to the car... When I got her home she couldn't even walk," he said, "So I put her in our bed and just sacrificed the duvet, she can puke all over my duvet that's okay."He said it was extreme, and violent. He was terrified she would choke on her own vomit, so he compressed her chest each time to ensure she could breathe in air.He said she was completely limp. An hour of this goes by, then she started coming around, sort of."She would come to conscious with fear in her eyes, not knowing where she was, who she was or what was happening?" McDonald said.James knew she was poisoned but didn't want to take her to the vet."I wanted her to die comfortably, I'm sorry," he said choking back tears, "I wanted her to die comfortably in my arms, not in a cage with a needle stuck in her arm."That night his son found a bit of brownie on her paw, leading them to believe she found and ate a pot brownie.His sons had an idea of how it got there, "one son said he actually has hidden them in the park, another son said he's found them in the park."The whole incident drove McDonald to post on the Nextdoor app, to warn neighbors. He swore to never come back to that dog park, and only returned to tell his story of warning.The VCA said they've seen many more accidental poisonings since the legalization of pot in California. The San Diego Humane Society said pet parents need to lock up drugs in their home. McDonald said fellow pet lovers should also keep a watchful eye over their fur babies. 1991

Federal investigators say the pilot of the helicopter that crashed in thick fog, killing Kobe Bryant and seven other passengers, reported he was climbing when he actually was descending. The National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday that Ara Zobayan’s last transmission said he was climbing to 4,000 feet to get above clouds. But he actually was in a rapid descent into a hillside northwest of Los Angeles. The report confirms initial findings that the helicopter was functioning and does not offer a conclusion of what caused the Jan. 26 crash that killed all nine aboard.Video and photos from the crash site indicated that heavy fog was in the area at the time the helicopter crashed.The pilot of the helicopter, who was among the nine killed, has lengthy experience in the air. He had 8,200 hours of total flight time and 1,250 hours with the type of helicopter flown. He had completed the same route the day before, albeit in clear conditions. 965

ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Following the announcement of a New York state park in her name, iconic transgender civil rights activist Marsha P. Johnson will be honored in her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey.Johnson's family was joined by Union County Freeholders Sergio Granados, Rebecca Williams and LGBTQ+ advocates to announce the future site of a public monument on Freedom Trail in Johnson’s honor.The city said the monument is "anticipated to be the first public monument in the State of New Jersey to honor a LGBTQ+ person and transgender woman of color."Elizabeth also announced that they will be holding a series of events during LGBTQ History Month in October to "engage with the community and the public to participate in the planning and creating of the historic project."Johnson died in 1992 at age 46. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — An Escondido restaurant forced closed by the county for violating health orders has been approved to reopen.Hernandez Hideaway was closed last week after its owner allegedly refused to comply with San Diego County's public health orders for facial coverings and social distancing.According to the restaurant's Facebook page, the location was allowed to reopen on June 27.RELATED: New restrictions placed on bars, restaurants in San Diego County amid coronavirus“Hernandez Hideaway is clear to reopen. They have agreed to follow state restaurant reopening guidelines. This includes their commitment to use facial coverings and ensure social distancing. They are required to post their plan for their patrons to see," a county statement read.The county had reported last week that the restaurant refused voluntary compliance with health orders on multiple occasions. (KGTV) -- The San Diego Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident involving Phil Graham, a candidate to represent the 76th district in the California Assembly. Niki Burgan filed the battery case with the Sheriff's Office Sunday, May 20.  She accuses Graham of forcibly kissing her at an Encinitas Bar. Burgan told 10News that it happened at 1st Street Bar on S. Coast Hwy 101 on the evening of Sunday, May 13, into the early morning of Monday, May 14 as the bar was closing. She said that Graham had initially been flirting, even mentioning that he was running for office and asked whether she would vote for him. After finding out that he was a Republican candidate she said, no she was a Democrat. At some point, she says his talk turned into aggression and Graham grabbed her hair, pulled her in, and started to kiss her. She said she had to push him off. Burgan also said she remembers that Graham had so much to drink that night that she had to help him sign his tab. The next morning Burgan says she learned that he was related to former Governor Pete Wilson and she was worried about repercussions. That's why she didn't file right charges right away.  1259
