SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man says his car was stolen while he was picking up a delivery order from a Subway in Clairemont. Luis Riveramerced said he was working for Postmates, a food delivery app, on Tuesday when he stopped at the Subway in Clairemont Town Square.“All I had to do is grab the bag and take off,” he said.So he felt comfortable leaving his car running, expecting to be in and out in a few seconds.“If I know it’s pick-up only, then I'll let my car run. I’ll just grab it,” he said.But while he was inside, he noticed part of the order was missing. As he was waiting for the order to be fixed, surveillance video captured a man peeking into the store, getting in his car and driving away.“I was like wow,” he remembered thinking when he went back outside. “I wasn’t expecting somebody to jump in my car right in front of me and take off like that.”He called the police but by the time they got there, the driver was long gone.“You put a little bit of trust and now I will never do that again,” said Riveramerced.A Navy veteran, he said he’d been working for Postmates for a few weeks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new poll shows many San Diegans would “definitely” or “probably” get a COVID-19 vaccine if it were available to them at little or no cost.An ABC 10News/San Diego Union-Tribune scientific poll recently asked 500 San Diego adults about their thoughts on a potential coronavirus vaccine, including who should get a vaccine first and their feelings towards vaccinations in general.Among the questions participants were asked: “A vaccine for the Coronavirus may soon be available to the public. If clinical trials go well, and a vaccine is available to you that is either free or costs just a few dollars, would you definitely get the vaccine? Probably get the vaccine? Probably not get the vaccine? Or definitely not get the vaccine?”The poll shows 38% of San Diegans would definitely get the vaccine; 32% would probably get the vaccine; 12% would probably not get it; 10% would definitely not get it; 8% are not sure.The release of the poll comes on the same day biotech company Moderna announced its COVID-19 vaccine candidate is 94.5% effective.The company’s chief medical officer, Dr. Tal Zaks, called the news one of the greatest moments of his life, adding, “It is absolutely amazing to me to be able to develop this vaccine and see the ability to prevent symptomatic disease with such high efficacy."Moderna reported no major side effects, and that unlike Pfizer’s vaccine announcement last week, Moderna’s vaccine does not require extreme refrigeration temperatures -- something many experts agreed would be a significant advantage for distribution.The federal government has said the coronavirus vaccine would be free, and some experts have suggested that with the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization -- which both companies are expected to apply for in the next few weeks -- there could be enough doses manufactured to immunize 20 million people by early next year.Other poll questions that San Diegans were asked: 1948

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A neighbor says San Diego Police were called to the home of YouTube personality McSkillet, whose real name was Trevor Heitmann, the morning of the deadly freeway crash.According to the CHP, the 18-year-old was in his McLaren sports car when he drove south in the northbound lanes of the 805 freeway near Sorrento Valley Thursday just before 5 p.m. He collided head on with an SUV. Both cars burst into flames.Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana were killed instantly. Heitmann also died following the crash.A neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, says she's known the family roughly 15 years,"He was a normal kid, we went to elementary school with him and everything was totally normal," the neighbor said. "He went off to La Jolla Country Day from then on I mainly saw him playing basketball with a couple of guys in the street, " she said.She said once Heitmann started getting into online video games, he stopped playing basketball outside.The neighbor said she saw police at the family's Carmel Valley home Thursday morning just hours before the fatal crash."There were probably three police cars, I would guess five officers and they were talking to his mother out in the driveway," she said.She also noticed an SUV blocking the family's driveway. Heitmann's McLaren sportscar was in the garage and the door was open."Now it makes sense. It was actually blocking the McLaren that was sitting inside the garage," she said.Later that afternoon, she said her husband heard a crash."He saw the McLaren zoom away and then it was a little while later that we had the news on and saw that there was a horrific accident," she said.Shortly after, she said she saw a CHP officer talking to Heitmann's dad.She says that's when she learned from the boy's father that the family had been worried about the 18-year-old's behavior."He told me five days earlier, that Trevor had just snapped, that was the word he used. He started making threats, or started saying he was driving at high speed, down the wrong side of the street and through red lights and he said that's what prompted him to come to San Diego," said the neighbor, who added that the boy's parents were divorced and his dad lived in Colorado.She said the teenager's dad also shared with her that his son hit the SUV that was blocking the driveway and nearly hit him."He said he almost hit me. This was him going back to the context of saying he had just snapped. And I said, 'you mean hit you as a person,' and he said, 'yeah I was standing out here because we were supposed to go to a psychiatrist,'" she said.San Diego Police have not confirmed that officers were called to the family's home that morning. These people were obviously very concerned to the degree that they called the police, especially in the face, they are very private people," she said.Clinical Psychologist Michelle Marie Carcel said forcing a kid who is over 18 to get psychiatric help can be complicated. She said parents need to be clear when calling 911 that they think their child is a danger to themselves or others."The most important thing is to really stress that in the call. I am concerned that my child is going to hurt themselves or hurt someone else, that kind of urgency really triggers that response from the officers," said Carcel.We don't know the circumstances of the call that day or if officers had contact with the 18-year-old. 3930

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man attempting to kill weeds set his house on fire in San Diego Sunday, according to firefighters.The fire happened just before 11 a.m. on the 4500 block of Clairemont Avenue. The man was trying to use a hand-held propane torch to kill the weeds in a planter box in front of his property when the plants caught fire.Shortly after the plants caught fire, the flames spread to the rest of the house.Firefighters arrived quickly and were able to extinguish the flames in about five minutes.Authorities estimate there is about ,000 in damage to the house.No one was injured. 613
