DOHA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's Prime Minister said Monday that Qatar attaches great importance to its relations with China and hopes the two countries' media could enhance cooperation as part of the efforts to bring bilateral ties to a new high.Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir al-Thani made the remarks during a meeting with He Ping, editor-in-chief of China's official Xinhua News Agency.Sheikh Hamad said Qatar and China share mutual interests in many aspects and bilateral cooperation in such fields as politics and economy have made remarkable headway in the past years.The prime minister expressed the hope that the two countries' media could play their due role in the development of bilateral relations.For his part, He Ping said China and Qatar have enjoyed ever- deepening relations in the past years driven by efforts from the two countries leaders.He said Xinhua would join hands with Qatari media to tap new channels in cooperation to deepen the understanding and friendship between the two peoples.He is heading a delegation in Qatar for a two-day visit to the Gulf state.

Its long list of prominent graduates includes many of the country's most important directors and popular movie celebrities.Among these directors are Zhang Yimou, winner of the top award at the Venice Film Festival and Chen Kaige, the only Chinese mainland director ever to win the top prize at Festival de Cannes.

GUANGZHOU, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao lit the Asian Games torch from a specially designed cauldron in Beijing's Temple of Heaven Tuesday morning, marking the official start of the month-long relay for the 16th Asian Games.The torch relay will cover Beijing, Harbin, Changchun, Shandong's Haiyang, and 21 cities in southern Guangdong Province before arriving at the Asian Games opening ceremony in Guangzhou on November 12.Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong, has been preparing itself for the games for the past six years, after it won the bid to host the Games in July 2004.The construction of the venues and the Asian Games Village has been completed. BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States Monday underscored their close economic relationship and called for its healthy growth."China and the United States share very close economic ties," Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan told a U.S. delegation led by two Missouri senators - Christopher Bond and Claire McCaskill.Wang said bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, investment and finance generate substantial benefits for both peoples."Both sides should work together to create a sound environment for a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship in the 21st century," Wang said.Bond and McCaskill echoed Wang's comments, calling on the two countries to oppose trade protectionism.On global economy, Wang said the recovery of the global economy would be bumpy."All countries are confronted with the common challenge of seeking robust, sustainable and balanced economic growth."Wang also said the Chinese government would "make efforts to strike a balance between maintaining steady and fast economic growth with the restructuring of the economy and the curbing of inflation."The two senators are leading a delegation of nearly 20 leaders from a variety of Missouri businesses, trade unions and universities.During their stay in Beijing, the delegation will meet with officials from the commerce, foreign affairs, civil aviation and agriculture departments.They will also travel to Shanghai on east China's seaboard, where they will call on local officials and tour the ongoing World Expo.
