SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - The library at Willow Elementary School is officially be renamed the "Ramon Parra Library" on Friday, in honor a man who dedicated his life to the children of San Ysidro."Anything that needed to be done, he did it," remembers Emilio Noriega, Jr., who played baseball with Parra's son. "He didn't look for any help, he did it himself."Parra is credited with founding the San Ysidro Little League. He also served on the local school board for 18 years. Friends say he served on countless other committees and community boards, all working to make San Ysidro a better place."He was the kind of person that did everything for everybody and didn't ask for nothing," says Jaime Mercado. "He was one of the most honest people you ever ran across."Parra passed 30 years ago. The effort to honor him began in 2017. Mercado and a few other people from the Friends of San Ysidro group started a petition to rename the whole school after Parra. When that failed, they set their sights on the library.A GoFundMe campaign raised ,100 to pay for new lettering. The San Ysidro School Board chipped in another ,000. In addition to the name on the outside of the library, a picture of Parra and an explanation of what he meant to the community will be on display inside."There are so many people in town who never heard of him," says Noriega. "Now they'll know."The dedication ceremony is Friday, February 28th at 3:30 pm. 1444

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — Businesses along the U.S.-Mexico border are bracing for a potential border shutdown, after President Donald Trump tweeted the threat Friday morning."If you get a day or two of closures, then there are a lot of businesses that won’t make it," predicted Jason Wells, the executive director of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce. He says, back in November when the San Ysidro Port of Entry was closed for six hours on a Sunday morning, it caused a .3 million economic loss to the businesses in the area.RELATED: Trump threatens to 'close' parts of U.S.-Mexican border if Mexico doesn't halt immigrationAcross the entire southern border, he says there is about billion in commerce every day that could be impacted by a closure.A lot of that impact would be felt on the Mexican side as well."This is a heavy handed ploy to get Mexico to react," commented Wells. 896

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- During this pandemic, maybe a taste of rich and creamy chocolate is the answer to true happiness. Dayleen Coleman, the owner of D'liteful Chocolat in San Marcos, is fortunate enough to spend her days creating with chocolate. Coleman calls working with chocolate an art, but she will be the first to tell you, she's not a chocolate maker, she's a chocolatier."We all have are own little specialties when working with chocolate. It's a way to express yourself. You're taking a product and then you are creating with it," Coleman said. But while she continues to produce delectable chocolates, like truffles and other goodies, the current pandemic has forced her to take a new approach to sell her sweets."I love to teach, and that's been my passion. We had to stop our classes for the longest time. I also work with wineries as well, and it all stopped," Coleman said. While D'liteful Chocolat has continued their online sales, they found one way to create more income by starting a membership club. The thinking is, a little chocolate may create happiness for their customers."People wanted to something to still celebrate," says Coleman. "So that's how we came up with our boxes. We started curating these boxes and decided to start a club. Once a month we can do something creative and be completely different."The best part of these membership boxes is that the customers can choose the chocolates of their choice. 1452

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Isaias snapped trees and knocked out power while blowing through the Bahamas on Saturday. The storm made landfall over Grand Bahama Island on Saturday. The Bahamas are still attempting to rebuild from Hurricane Dorian in 2019, a storm that killed dozens and caused heavy damage to the island chain. The storm will then head toward the Florida coast, where officials have closed beaches, parks and coronavirus testing sites. As of the 11 a.m. Sunday advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Isaias was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and was moving north-northwest at 8 mph.Florida authorities say they've prepared shelters, but so far don't expect to have to evacuate people. Gov. Ron DeSantis says the most important thing now is to "remain vigilant.” The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the maximum sustained winds weakened slightly to 80 miles per hour Saturday morning as it moved toward the Florida coast.Current NOAA forecasts show that Isaias could make landfall near Florida's east coast on Sunday. Current models show the storm traveling up the Eastern Seaboard, brining heavy rains and winds to coastal areas of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina by early next week. 1232
