SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With some K-12 schools returning to in-person learning in San Diego County, more testing sites for school personnel will be available starting Thursday.The County of San Diego is partnering with the San Diego County Office of Education to open four new testing locations dedicated to testing of school employees. The first two will open in Chula Vista and San Diego on Thursday. They can move back into general campus housing when they are no longer infectious.The school launched a dashboard on its website to show the current number of positive cases for staff and students both on and off-campus.Students on campus will be tested for COVID-19 twice a month through the school year. 1728

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts from all over San Diego County honored our local veterans laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park on Saturday. They placed American flags at the gravesite of every fallen veteran at the cemetery. The event is done all over the country to teach the scouts about patriotism and community service. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two hundred elementary students are now the proud owners of new bikes, thanks to inmates at the Donovan Correctional Facility.For the fourth year, the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center teamed up with the correctional facility to make the event happen. The inmates raised over ,000 to pay for the bikes and accessories, with some donating money they earn working. “Certain decisions got me where I am, but better decisions that I made since then put me exactly where I am, in the fire department and on my way out the door,” said prison inmate, Andrew Breckenridge.Breckenridge was one of two inmates invited to attend that actual event at the Kroc Center. He’s being released from prison in 10 days. “It feels great, I mean I can’t describe the feeling, seeing the smiles on these kids faces,” said Breckenridge.Children who received bikes were chosen based on merit and good behavior at school. 933

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wherever a Topgolf is built in San Diego, it's bound to tee-up some criticism.But as it stands, a potential East Harbor Island location facing golfers toward the downtown skyline may not end up being an option.The Board of Port Commissioners decided to delay a decision earlier this month on entering an exclusive negotiation agreement with Topgolf.RELATED: Gaslamp Quarter thoroughfare may become a promenadeThe Port directed staff to begin mapping out an agreement with Topgolf late last year. East Harbor Island was floated as a potential location at the time. But an agreed upon location must be chosen first before the negotiation starts.During the Feb. 11 meeting, commissioners were presented a study on developing the Harbor Island site and how Topgolf could work into that plan. Three diagrams showed the site's possibilities, with or without Topgolf:A "phase one" diagram included a potential Topgolf plus a 400-space parking lot and 500-room hotel and parking structure on the east side of the island. The "phase two" rendering kept Topgolf and the east-end hotel, but added a hotel development to the facility's west side that could have a shared parking structure with Topgolf.The final diagram depicted three hotel developments on the East Harbor Island land, without Topgolf. All the diagrams were meant to be illustrative of potential ideas of the site, not an official plan. It's a lot of land.""It seems to me we have one decision or one issue we need to discuss, which is do we want to have Topgolf in this location," said chair Anne Moore.
