SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- For the first time in decades, NASA is moving closer to sending people to the moon, or even Mars. Naval Base San Diego is playing a key role in that process.This week the USS John P. Murtha left Naval Base San Diego to test recovery efforts of NASA’s mock Orion capsule.“We’re going to ensure that once it comes down, once it hits that water, that everything from then on is totally safe,” says Retired Navy Pilot and President of the San Diego Air & Space Museum Jim Kidrick.The amphibious ship sends a crew into the Pacific Ocean, then uses smaller boats to guide the capsule back to the USS Murtha.The Orion has an environmental control system, a heat shield that can withstand 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, radiation control and parachutes. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- An appeals court today overturned a ruling that would have allowed the conditional release of the “Bolder Than Most” rapist, Alvin Quarles. The ruling was issued by the 4th District Court of Appeals Monday. The court said, in part that “Quarles is a serial rapist whose crimes were shockingly brutal and destructive. If he fails after he is conditionally released, considering his past, we shudder to contemplate the consequences of such a failure.”After news broke of the reversal, Dianne Jacob, who serves on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and has been adamantly against the release, spoke out on Twitter. We must continue to fight the placement of sexually violent predators into our communities,” Jacob said in part. The ruling comes after San Diego County Superior Court Judge David M. Gill's decision to release Quarles to a home somewhere in San Diego County. After his release, he would have undergone treatment through a conditional release program.Gill's ruling followed a series of closed-door hearings that involved testimony from psychiatrists and other experts. Quarles was dubbed the "Bolder Than Most" rapist due to the way he attacked his victims at knifepoint, sometimes forcing the women's husbands or boyfriends to watch. In 1989, he pleaded guilty to committing over a dozen sexual assaults in the mid-to-late 1980s. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison. San Diego (KGTV) One plate at a time, a San Diego couple is hoping to help those living on the streets with no food to eat. They’re using their new food trailer to do just that. ‘#FeedingEveryone’ is the goal for the Duwara Consciousness Foundation. “Our foundation is about serving anyone and everyone,” says co-founder Harisimran Khalsa. Through donations from the community, couple Davinder and Harisimran were able to purchase a food trailer to help feed the homeless. The couple says they’re committed to helping others. They left their jobs, sold businesses, and are now living a simpler lifestyle. “When your passionate about something, you have to live the life of and see how it is,” says Davinder Singh. “We decided that we would give up the house that we were living in.”The 16-foot trailer is equipped with a griller, 2 part stove, refrigeration and prep space. Every food item made is plant-based. Donations and volunteers strictly power the organization. They are serving at least two locations every week. They hope to grow the non-profit and eventually purchase a shower bus for the homeless.  The organization has partnered with the Jewish Family Service to feed the homeless on Thursdays and Fill-A-Belly to serve those in need on Tuesdays. They are also working on a partnership with the Alpha Project in Downtown. Serving locations and times, as well as a donation page, is listed on the Duwara Consciousness Foundation website.  1507

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Today is the peak travel day for the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA expects more than 54 million Americans to travel more than 50 miles from home this season. While many are dreading the drive, others have chosen to take the rails.Gary Green was visiting his friend in San Diego for the last few days. But he is making the trip back to Los Angeles on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner. "The car is a painful experience. The 405 is obnoxious. The 101 is obnoxious. People are miserable, and it's the wrong time of year for that," Green said. While motorists are thankful that gas is about <云转化_句子>.25 / gallon cheaper than a month ago, lower gas prices, mean more drivers are on the roads. Jessica Windell said she is not taking any chances on missing family time. "Especially with all the crazy fires going on lately, there are a lot of closures. Anything more than that, they say they have a Plan B."We often give passengers food packs and water," Irvin said. "If it's necessary, we'll bring in bus services to accommodate passengers."The hope is it never gets to that point.
