But soon, the mural-clad location could be listed within the National Park System.The Chicano Park Preservation Act (H.R. 486), introduced in January by Rep. Juan Vargas of the 51st Congressional District, would require the Department of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of Chicano Park and its murals and evaluate the site's national significance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Santa Ana winds and low humidity will bring fire danger to San Diego County this week.Relative humidity is down to 10% to 15% in the county, according to the National Weather Service San Diego, causing localized fire weather conditions through Tuesday ahead of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds peaking on Thursday.The high wind weather is expected to last Wednesday night into Friday, the NWS said. Winds will gradually weaken next weekend, but dry air will remain in the county."It is already starting out dry preceding this next event which is not good," the NWS wrote. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Serious crashes and traffic-related deaths have increased in San Diego, a trend the police department is hoping to reverse.One strategy to tackle the problem is education through enforcement operations.On Saturday officers focused on the Hillcrest and Linda Vista neighborhoods, citing drivers for speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for signs/signals and failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. They also cited pedestrians crossing the street illegally or failing to yield to drivers who have the right of way. "For me personally I really want to see the number of our serious collisions reduced because when I am on my normal shift I do go to the serious injury collisions since I work traffic division, and it's just really disheartening and sad to see people involved in preventable collisions getting seriously injured," said traffic Sgt. Robert McDonald. McDonald says the city saw 56 fatalities in 2018, a roughly 51% increase in deaths from 2017. He says 34 of the fatalities were pedestrians. Officers were also targeting people on scooters breaking the rules. "I have seen more and more people riding the scooters on the street, like they're supposed to, instead of the sidewalk, but we still have a continuing problem with people riding on the sidewalk, going too fast, drinking, colliding, injuring themselves," said Sgt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — St. Augustine High School, an all-boys Catholic school in North Park, has filed a lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state officials to allow the school to reopen for in-person instruction.The school says that after holding its summer school and athletic programs in-person for more than 400 students without any reports of COVID-19 cases, they are seeking to stop the state's enforcement against in-person classes during the pandemic this fall."At Saints, we don’t believe remote learning is sufficient to provide a quality education our students are entitled to and our families have come to expect," said Principal James Horne. "We are confident we can open our school safely, consistent with CDC and San Diego County health guidance.
