SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A piece of Hollywood has made its way to the USS Midway Museum. Thursday crews worked to move a large movie prop onto the deck of the famed vessel: A replica of the TBD Devastator that was used in the movie “Midway." “It’s the only Devastator on display in the world,” says Walt Loftus, Air Wing Director at the USS Midway Museum. “All the rest of them are at the bottom of the ocean.”RELATED: Top Gun 2 plane driven through Coronado streetsThe plane is a replica of the carriers that sailors used at war. The giant plane was a prop used in the upcoming film, starring Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, and Nick Jonas. It's designed with “big square tubing with foam made into the shape of the devastator,” says Loftus. “But it's the actual size that the Devastator was.”"Midway" follows the story of U.S. Navy sailors and aviators who persevered through the Battle of Midway in 1942. It was only six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. So basically when these pilots went out, it was more of a suicide mission.”Loftus shares having this plane aboard the Midway is a chance to, “preserve what we have for future generations.” The Midway will be released in theaters Nov. 8 during Veteran’s Day weekend. 1455

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A mother and son who died in a shooting at a Linda Vista home earlier this week were identified by San Diego police.On Dec. 7, at around 3:15 a.m., officers were called to a home in the 2200 block of Crandall Drive in response to a shooting.Responding officers found a man and a woman inside the home with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, according to police.The woman, identified as 46-year-old Hue Le, died from her injuries at the hospital.RELATED: Mother dead, son gravely injured in Linda Vista shootingThe injured man, identified as the deceased woman’s 28-year-old son Justin Le, was placed on life support but police said he passed away on Tuesday evening.According to police, Justin Le’s injuries appeared to be self-inflicted.The case is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide, San Diego police said.No other details on the case were released. 895

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Pacific Beach bartender was sucker-punched by a man he said refused to wear a face mask.Tony Aversa, bar lead at 710 Beach Club, said he was working on Saturday, Sept. 5, when he noticed a confrontation at the door around 7 p.m.He says he walked over to the three men and, "I just asked them to please put on a mask and I'll happily help you with whatever you need ... The guy just refused and continued to argue blatantly within inches of my face with no mask on."A female bartender walked over and Aversa said the man shoved her, so he put himself between the man and his coworker.That's when Aversa said another member of the combative group came running."He was walking away at the time and came running back down the sidewalk and blind-sided me with a punch ... Immediately, you could tell my nose was broken, I was gushing blood and I knew immediately what had happened, I kinda spun around and asked one of my employees to call the cops," Aversa said.He said an officer was there within a few minutes and walked with him, finding one of the men. Bystanders said the man who threw the punch got into a car and sped off.Police describe the man as Pacific Islander, 6'2", 260 lbs., with curly brown hair, and wearing a white t-shirt and dark basketball shorts.When we asked if Aversa had anything to say to the man, he said no. "I just want to see him put to justice at this point," says Aversa.Aversa will be seeing a surgeon later this week for his broken nose. We want to wish a Happy Birthday to Pauley!"She's a 1947 International made into a hot rod fire truck named Lil' Red. Tricked out like the toy models kids love, the big kid at the center of this story is Mira Mesa High School math teacher David Watson."And up popped this fire truck," said Watson. "It's just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. It's a hot rod fire truck and I thought, oh my gosh, I need to have this."Watson says he's long had a thing for classic cars and when he spotted Lil' Red for sale in an online post he plunked down a pretty "confidential" penny to make her his own. This from a man who gives lessons on the value of a buck."I also teach a class called financial math," said Watson. "I wrote curriculum for that. I changed the name to Math for Life because that makes more sense."Watson says it's things like how to open a checking account and maintain a budget. So, what did his students think of hot rod expense?"They thought I was crazy!" exclaimed David. "They thought I was stupid; don't spend your money on that. Why would you do that? At first, explained Watson for the pure joy of having a really awesome set of wheels, but then he got to know Lil' Red a little better."The siren works, it has multi sirens. It has a little warning horn, it has a big huge horn, big loud horn. I didn't even know it had it. I was like, I wish it had the loud horn but then I finally figured out, it's in the middle of the steering wheel."Then it hit him right in the middle of his heart, he had a celebration machine."Baby showers, engagements, birthdays, and half my birthdays are for people who are 60 and older," said Watson. "The oldest person I did a birthday for was a hundred."So far, he's added an unforgettable flair to more than 70 events — and he doesn't charge a dime."Some people will call me crazy," said Watson. "But it's a lot of fun. My brother usually goes with me and he brings his dog. and his dog is a wonderful, very friendly dog. And the kids love his dog."I say to him, "You must get a great kick out of this.""I never realized," Watson says. "I thought I would just love owning it.
