SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two local hikers are back in San Diego and after making a bizarre discovery on a remote trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.On a beautiful day two weeks ago, Tyler Hofer and Brandon Follin were in their second day of a hike up Mt. Williamson, the state's second's highest peak."Very remote, very rugged," said Hofer.The 14,000-foot summit was just three hours away when they got a bit off track in a boulder-filled area near a lake."It's called the Williamson Bowl. It's a bowl at the foot of Mt. Williamson," said Hofer.Inside the rocky bowl, the two were stepping across boulders when something caught Hofer's eye."I look down and see what appears to be a different color rock. Instead of gray, it's white," said Hofer.Wedged under a small boulder was a human skull."We just start removing rocks about one to two feet in diameter," said Hofer.Under those rocks was a skeleton, mostly intact."The arms were crossed on its chest ... as if you were lying in a casket or coffin ... almost as if someone laid it there peacefully," said Hofer. Also buried in the rocks: the remnants of a leather belt and rubber shoes. "In shock and in awe of what we found and the context in which we found it," said Hofer.The two reached the summit to get cell service and reported their findings to Inyo County deputies. Investigators say there are no signs of foul play and no matches to any missing persons reports. Based on the state of decomposition, the coroner believes the skeleton is several decades old."I'm just honored to be part of uncovering this mystery, because that's what it is," said Hofer.Hofer, a local youth pastor, is hopeful the discovery will lead to answers."That gives me a lot of joy knowing someone is going to get closure. That is someone's loved one," said Hofer.Investigators say they're following up on tips that have poured in. They also plan to conduct DNA tests, before matching results against genealogy databases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With San Diego County back in the purple tier, religious gatherings have to move back outdoors.The first Sunday back in California’s most restrictive tier and Rock Church held five outdoor services around the county, but this is not new for them. The megachurch moved to live streaming of services at the beginning of the pandemic, then added in outdoor services about six weeks ago.In the red tier, religious services could hold indoor services at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever was fewer. Point Loma’s Pastor Travis Gibson said during this time, they had the option to move outdoors, but with 7,000 people attending Point Loma’s services alone, it wasn’t worth it.“One hundred people is not even the volunteers so this is the best option,” he said, standing outside after an outdoor service.RELATED: San Diego houses of worship told to move services outside by SaturdayHe said they have anywhere from 50,000 to 75,000 people watching their live streamed services every week, with only about 1,000 people coming to this new outside setup, but they’re happy to be able to give different worship options to their members.“There are so many ways to worship God. You can control the temperature, you can control the airplanes, you can control the lights, but you don’t need it to worship God,” said Pastor Travis.He said they do not have plans to try to move back inside anytime soon because they don’t want to switch back and forth, so they’re moving slowly and making sure the online and outside services work.RELATED: San Diego County health officials warn local churches about holding indoor servicesNot every church has been as flexible. This is the second time churches were asked to move outside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Westview High School officials Wednesday scrambled to cover up offensive graffiti painted prominently on campus overnight.A custodian discovered the graffiti over a "W" in the center of campus "defaced with graffiti containing offensive symbols and language," according to Westview Principal Tina Ziegler.The graffiti was described to 10News reporter Steve Fiorina as depicting several swastikas, sexual and crude language, profanities, and obscene drawings.In a letter to parents, Ziegler said campus security and custodians worked quickly to prevent students' exposure to the graffiti: 639

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a string of recent fires in San Diego County and statewide, it’s no secret that so-called fire season, which California fire agencies say is now year round, is getting worse.So far this year, Cal Fire has battled nearly 3,800 wildfires that have so far scorched more than 292,000 acres.That figure shows a sharp increase from previous years and is far above average for this time of year.According to Cal Fire, the last five years have, on average, seen just over 118,800 acres burned statewide by this time."We are seeing more destructive, larger fires burning at rates that we have historically never seen," said Jonathan Cox, Cal Fire regional Battalion Chief.The increasing danger even has agencies like the US Department of Agriculture warning of the risks. As far as major fire incidents, so far this year there have been well over 100.
