It's a frightening case of road rage that happened in broad daylight and spanned several communities.Now Police in Allen Park, Michigan are asking for the public's help in finding the man who was driving a black Nissan Altima with a damaged fender and out of state plates on the front and back of the vehicle. Detective Jim Thorburn with the Allen Park Police Department said the man chased another driver several miles and then unleashed at least eight rounds of gunfire at another driver in broad daylight on the southbound Southfield Fwy ramp to I-94. It all started with a fender bender around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in Detroit, in the area of Chicago near Greenfield. The driver of a pick up truck tried to exchange information, he told police, when the black Nissan Altima driver pulled out a gun. That when he ran. "He was being chased by a Nissan Ultima and he had a big pick up truck and he thought by cutting through fields and stuff he would lose the Ultima," Thorburn said.But that didn't happen. The victim hopped on the Southfield Freeway southbound driving to the I-94 ramp, where the suspect who was still chasing him, opened fire. The victim was hit in the backside but was able to keep driving, he finally lost the shooter, pulled over in Taylor and called police. Police photos show the side of the pick up truck riddled with bullet holes. A big bullet hole in the head rest was a sign that the suspect was likely shooting to kill. The victim escaped with a superficial bullet wound to the backside. Today he said he is in pain, but recovering.  Police are hoping to find someone who might have seen the male suspect fire eight to nine gun shots through the passenger window of his black Nissan Ultima in broad daylight on the busy freeway. And all was fine until the pandemic. “Due to COVID-19, my most recent project that I accepted was in commercial and retail, and that industry was seriously impacted from COVID-19 and was the first to shut down. Due to that shutdown, my project was shut down along with my income,” Sanders said.She refused to be negative though. And while stressed and anxious about her income, she turned to the internet.“I found the Mom Project doing a regular Google search online,” Sanders recalls. When she found it, The Mom Project happened to be hiring for its own team. She landed a job and couldn't be happier. Chief Community Officer Colleen Curtis says The Mom Project has now served over 2,000 companies and connected thousands of moms with employment.“People are coming to the realization that this can’t be how it is for everyone, forever,” Curtis said.The Mom Project was born in 2016, by you guessed it, a mom. Who, while on maternity leave, read a statistic. It said that 43 percent of skilled women leave the workforce after becoming mothers. Founder Allison Robinson didn't want moms like her to choose between a career and a family. The emotional labor of adapting to new situations: work from home, kids are now home, all the way from babies to college kids, and your village has been stripped away,” Curtis said.Chandra Sanders says part of her new role at The Mom Project is to help other moms. Specifically, to help moms of color find and achieve her same success.“I must say it's the first job that I’ve had that I’ve felt welcome as a mom, as a woman, I didn’t have to hide that and as woman of color I didn’t have to hide that either,” Sanders said.Sanders says her former roles in commercial and retail industry were challenging. "Being a Black woman in an industry where I’m the only Black woman you have to be very careful about what you say, how you dress, the tone of voice that you’re using and you have to be careful about everything that you do,” Sanders said.Now she's on a mission to both change the workforce and pave the way for others.“Many companies now have these initiatives, want to hire a diverse workforce they really want that- their human resource departments are in charge of reaching out to the mom project and to candidates to ensure their workforce is diverse.”And she says, she's been there. Laid off, struggling as a single mom. She wants others to know, focusing on the good and the positive will help propel you forward.“I can do it, and I did it and we’re going to make sure other people can do it too,” Sanders said. INDIANAPOLIS -- A Marion County, Indiana toddler is dead after suffering extensive head trauma from weeks of suspected abuse and his father’s girlfriend has been charged in connection with his death.Two-year-old Jose Cubas Rivas was rushed in for emergency surgery on October 28 after Dilcia Chavez Claros brought him into the hospital unconscious.According to court documents obtained from the Marion County Prosecutor, Claros, 30, told doctors that the child had fallen off a bunk bed and lost consciousness while playing with her two sons.The 2-year-old was rushed into emergency surgery for a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. During the surgery, Doctors had to remove a portion of his skull to release some of the pressure on his brain. In addition to head trauma, they noted several unexplained bruises and smaller injuries covering Rivas’ body with no history of medical treatment to explain them. the injuries.Doctors called the Department of Child Services after concluding that the injuries to the child’s head were so severe that they could not have been accidental. Claros was arrested two days later in connection with his death.Rivas was pronounced dead on November 1 after doctors said his brain showed no signs of activity.While investigating the child’s death, investigators uncovered details surrounding suspected abuse dating back to early September.Those details are spelled out in a 17-page report filed by the Marion County Prosecutor's office on October 2. In them, a social worker told police that she had helped the family get housing, beds and insurance back in August.The social worker said she first noticed signs of abuse on the 2-year-old during a follow-up visit in September and had filed a child abuse report through DCS on September 20 - over a month before Rivas' death - but had never heard from the investigator assigned to the case.During that first follow-up visit, the social worker told police that Rivas had, “two dark black eyes, a large bump on the front of his forehead, a small bruise on the left side of his cheek.” The child also had a busted and swollen lip and the social worker said it looked like he had been punched in the mouth.When she asked Claros what happened, the social worker said Claros became, “noticeably nervous and began stumbling over her words.”Claros claimed Rivas’ injuries were all from when he fell outside while he was with his father. She admitted to the social worker that she beat her children, but had no feelings for the 2-year-old because she was not his mother.After several canceled follow-ups, the social worker visited the family again in mid-September. This time, she said the child had new injuries to his head which Claros again blamed on him falling off a table.Claros told the social worker that she had taken Rivas to the hospital on September 11 after police were called on her while she was shopping at Plato’s Closet.The report filed by the officer that day said a witness had called police after she saw a young boy with “two black eyes and swelling on the side of his face.” She also saw “bruises on both of his upper arms that looked like handprint marks as if someone had grabbed him roughly by his arm” and “marks on the front of his neck that looked like bruises from someone picking him up by his neck.” The officer noted that the mother told him the child had fallen from a table and that the doctors reported there was “low suspicion for non-accidental trauma.”The detective noted that it appeared no MRI, X-Ray or scan of any type was taken when the child was treated at the hospital.On October 28, Claros told detectives she had taken her three children to Goodwill and that Rivas had gotten sick inside the store. After taking him home, she said she had given him crackers and juice but he eventually went to play with his brothers.Claros said one of her sons came to her later while she was cooking dinner and said Rivas had fallen from a bunk bed and was not moving.She told detectives she tried to revive the child with mouth-to-mouth and when that didn’t work she put him in a cold shower. When that didn’t work either, Claros said she used rubbing alcohol under his nose but could still not get him to wake up.Claros said she called the child’s father who told her to take him to the hospital.She told detectives she waited 10 minutes and then changed the child’s clothes before driving him to the hospital.Claros was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.  4538

But in an unexpected twist, the couple and the homeless man are charged with making up the story in a scheme to get money.“[This] highlights the promise and the peril of these sites,” says Anna Laitin, with Consumer Reports. “These incredible stories come out; people really touched by this and obviously wanted to help, wanted to give money. Now it's not clear the story was true.”The website GoFraudMe tracks scams on personal crowdfunding sites and has found more than 200 cases in the past five years.Consumer Reports admits it can be a challenge to know if you're giving to a legitimate cause.“It’s really hard. You really have to read carefully and think,” Laitin says. “And maybe give to ones where you know the person personally or you know somebody who can vouch for it, because otherwise you can get caught up especially in these viral ones.”Also, pay attention to how much money is needed and how much has already been donated.
