TAMPA, Fla. — Within one month, someone splashed four cars with an acid-like liquid in busy Tampa parking lots.Deputies are not sure if the incidents are related. The most recent happened in a shared parking lot near the AMC Veterans movie theater and Starbucks off Anderson Road.The scenario is the same in all of these situations. Some sort of corrosive liquid is poured onto the doors of the cars which damages paint, metal and plastic on the car.Two panels on Gary Schaff’s 2015 white Mercedes had to be repainted. He was parked in the lot off Anderson Road two nights in a row as he and his family caught up on the latest Marvel movies at AMC."When we came out to the car which was a little bit of a walk away from the theater, it looked as if there was almost shaving cream or foam on the side of the car,” Schaff said. "We're like, what is that?”As his family got closer, they realized the white paint had bubbled up. By the time they got home a lot of it had flaked off and exposed the metal underneath. "I don't even know what I would say to someone who thinks it’s a good idea to do something like that,” Schaff said. "What does it accomplish exactly?"Hillsborough County deputies say a 2007 BMW was vandalized the same way in a Publix parking lot off N. Dale Mabry on April 11 and a 2017 Porsche SUV was damaged by a corrosive liquid in the Heath Integrated parking lot on April 23. All three attacked occurred within a few miles of each other. The Tampa Police Department responded to a 2011 Audi with similar damage at International Mall on April 15."It's just to me a completely random thing, and it's really hard to prevent,” Schaff said. TEMPLE, TX — The body of a missing Fort Hood soldier is believed to have been found along railroad tracks in Temple, Texas.The Temple Police Department says around 5:36 p.m. on Tuesday, a call was received in reference to a medical call along railroad tracks.A caller advised that a man was observed near the railroad tracks. When officers arrived, it was determined the man had been dead for some period of time.Identification found at the scene indicates the victim may be missing Fort Hood soldier 23-year-old Elder Fernandes. However, no forensic confirmation has been made at this time.Sgt. Fernandes was last seen on Monday, August 17 and reported missing on Wednesday, August 19.Temple PD says at this stage of the investigation, there is no indication of foul play. The investigation is ongoing.Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield has ordered an autopsy, and next of kin has been notified."Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fernandes family during this challenging time," Temple Police Chief Shawn Reynolds said.Temple PD is the lead agency in the death investigation. TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa Catholic school experienced heightened police presence and low attendance Tuesday after a former contracted employee threatened violence on campus. "When I first walked into school there was like eight people and then like they kept saying there was like police and a lockdown drill will happen," said Sofia Diaco, a fourth-grade student at Academy of the Holy Names. Tampa Police advised school officials at Academy of the Holy Names to operate on a modified lockdown Tuesday as they searched for the person who threatened to "shoot up the school.""There's no question that when you hear about such a specific and violent threat, you worry about your children's safety and you entrust that safety to the school," said parent Dan Diaco. Ainya Smalls, 23, was arrested for making the threat in front of students and staff as a supervisor escorted her off campus after being terminated on Monday. Smalls worked for a cleaning company hired by the school. "A lot of people were scared, some post-traumatic issues from some of the children, and some of the parents to be honest," Diaco said. Scripps station WFTS in Tampa has learned, Smalls already had a warrant out for her arrest for criminal mischief while she worked at the historic Catholic school. Officials say Smalls passed a Level 2 background check provided by the cleaning company. But after this incident, they will now conduct their own screenings for all contracted employees and plan on re-screening every member of the cleaning staff. "I think the Academy's new policy of taking control of the background checks is a wonderful remedy to help prevent something like this from happening again," Diaco said.
