SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Trump administration is targeting California for its sanctuary laws protecting undocumented immigrants.Immigrants in San Diego say they already live in fear of being split from their families. Those who came here for a better life say they are contributing to the economy and their communities. They say it's unfair to paint all undocumented immigrants as criminals.Jesus Mendez Carbajal, a DACA recipient and Human Rights Organizer for Alliance San Diego, believes the lawsuit is unfair and infringes on state's rights.However, some U.S. citizens say it's about time an administration took serious action against states.Brenda Sparks recently moved out of California because of its sanctuary laws. She doesn't believe the state is doing enough to protect its legal citizens.Now she lives in Mesa, Arizona.Almost seven years ago, Spark's son Eric was killed when an undocumented immigrant without a drivers license hit him. Sparks believes if the United States was tougher on illegal immigration her son would still be alive today. 1063

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is joining the effort to make more affordable housing. The MTS Board of Directors recently greenlit a new 410-unit housing development at the Grantville trolley station. 156 of the units will be affordable and 254 will be market rate ‘student-oriented’ apartments. MTS is partnering with developers Affirmed Housing and Greystar on the project. It is estimated the total population housed on the planned trolley station property will be 1,049 people. The development would be built on top of the current parking lot. The developers will be making their own parking spaces on the site and MTS will be adding 96 replacement parking spots, according to transit officials. In a statement on the prospective parking concerns MTS wrote, “we average about 80 to 120 commuters per weekday that use the park and ride, so we are in the wheelhouse of demand.” MTS says it is currently looking into developing four more of its stations into similar housing in downtown, El Cajon and Chula Vista. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thousands of people donned in green flooded the Gaslamp Quarter Saturday night for the 25th annual San Diego ShamROCK block party.The event featured three stages of entertainment, food, jig-offs, and plenty of green beer. "My all-time favorite. Because they close down the streets, it's like everybody is dressed up, it's such a good time, everyone is in such a great mood, on the same level of having a good time, it’s fun!” said Kelsey Silver, a San Diego resident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The South Park neighborhood has a new ornament for the holiday season, which residents hope will become a permanent addition.The South Park Business Group recently installed a new sign of the community's name on top of a building at the end of Fern Street."It gives people a little more of a talking point," says Tanya McAnear, who owns Bad Madge and Company nearby. "Having a branded neighborhood helps when you're on social media."The sign is part of this year's Holiday Walkabout Luminaria event on December 7. But people in the neighborhood hope the business group keeps it up as a permanent addition."I'd like to see it stay for a long time," says Wayne Prunkard, who has lived in South Park for 20 years. "It gives an atmosphere to the neighborhood, and I really like it."People in South Park have been clamoring for a sign like this for years, one that can help identify the area in the same way signs in University Heights, Normal Park, North Park, Hillcrest, Kensington, Barrio Logan, and Gaslamp do.The South Park Business Group paid for the sign. Organizers say they're looking into a way to make it permanent."It makes you stand out. It makes you unique," says Grace Gerber, the manager of Native Poppy.
