La Jolla residents are beyond frustrated after yet another truck got stuck on one of its busiest streets, a problem they thought the city fixed last week. The latest incident happened Saturday, when a delivery truck got trapped trying to turn up steep Hillside Drive from busy Torrey Pines Road. The truck jutted out into Torrey Pines Road, blocking one lane. "I am completely flabbergasted," La Jolla resident Diane Kane said. "Clearly whatever they did, it was not effective."The city recently installed a cross gutter at the base of Hillside Drive, which residents say made the problem worse. On May 6, it took a second, more powerful tow truck to free a truck that had been lodged at the intersection for hours. Residents complained to the city, which dispatched crews to smooth out the asphalt on Torrey Pines Road to make it more flush with the cross-gutter. However, that only helped make it easier for cars and light trucks to get up and down without bottoming out. A city spokesman said warning signs telling large trucks to avoid the intersection would remain. “City staff are in the process of assessing the intersection to see what additional remedies, if any, can be implemented to help with this problem," city spokesman Alec Phillipp said. "We continue to direct commercial trucks to abide by the signage in the area stating that trucks shall not be using this intersection.”Kane said residents want the city to improve its signage and alert directional apps to instruct trucks to avoid the area. 1519

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --  Most people quit their jobs by submitting a resignation letter or simply not showing up, but one local man is going viral for the unique way he quit at an area Popeyes.Cedrick Workuff grabs a microphone before he heads into the Popeyes near 103rd and State Line Rd. Tuesday afternoon. "I come in here and slave all the time," he says in the now-viral video. "They think I'm going to go in there and be like 'I quit, I quit.' No, I'm about to go in there and sing."Followed by his friend, Marco Summers, who is recording on his phone, Workuff grabs a microphone and heads to the door. "Excuse me, sir," Workuff said as he squeezes past a customer at the door. "I'm about to quit my job today." In the next few minutes, Workuff improvises a catchy song as the chuckling customers and confused employees stare on. Since the video was posted Tuesday afternoon, it's earned over 72800 views and nearly 13,000 shares. So what's the story behind the viral video? In an interview with 41 Action News, Workuff revealed he didn't even work at the Popeyes in the first place. Summers says he made the video to spread positivity and make people laugh."It's something me and Marco wanted to put in the works," said Summers. "It wasn't planned. It was all improvised. Only the idea was planned." Summers says he's made several other videos that have been shared by celebrities and TV shows like 'Right This Minute.'He gets his inspiration from his own experiences."I've been through most of the stories I talk about. Instead of letting them damage me, I make them something funny," Summers said. "It's opening a door for people to laugh at situations like that."Summers and Workuff hope to someday turn their stories into a TV show. "If we don't make people smile, we failed," Summers said. "Our main missing is to bring back peace and love through laughter," Workuff said. Summers posts videos on his Facebook and Youtube.  **Please be aware - this video does contain some explicit language.  2098

JBS Tolleson, Inc. is recalling more than 5.1 million pounds of raw beef products that may be tainted with salmonella, the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday. The recalled beef was produced and packaged between July 26 and September 7 according to FSIS. The products have been distributed nationwide and include the brands Kroger, Cedar River Farms, Grass Run Farms and JBS generic among others. This is an expansion of a recall that was first issued in October for the same reason. The total amount of "non-intact raw beef products" that have been recalled now exceeds more than 12 million pounds. The recalled beef is linked to an outbreak of salmonella that, as of November 15, has caused 246 people to become sick in 25 states, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No deaths have been reported but 56 people have been hospitalized."FSIS is continuing to investigate illnesses associated with this widespread outbreak, and additional product from other companies may also be recalled," the recall notice said.Consumers should discard or return any recalled beef. FSIS said its concerned that consumers may unknowingly have recalled beef in their freezer. In addition, "only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160°F. Other cuts of beef should be cooked to a temperature of 145°F and allowed to rest for at least 3 minutes," USDA said.Symptoms of salmonella usually begin within 12 to 72 hours of consuming contaminated food. These can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever that last between four and seven days. Most people recover on their own, but those who experience persistent diarrhea may need to be hospitalized. 1740

Just minutes after being criticized by the president of the United States, Gov. Andrew Cuomo defended his establishment of a panel to review a federally authorized COVID-19 vaccine, and said the president's threat to hold back distribution in New York was retaliatory and personal. In interviews with MSNBC and CNN, Cuomo said New York is one of a handful of states with such panels, created due to public concerns over the safety of a shot, with fears that the race to an effective coronavirus vaccine had become politicized."An overwhelming number of Americans are worried about political interference...by the president," he said. The point of the review panel, he said, is to give New Yorkers peace of mind that the vaccine is safe.In a Rose Garden address touting the success of COVID-19 vaccine trials, President Donald Trump slammed Cuomo over a recent policy to essentially double-check federal authorization for a vaccine.Trump said the vaccine would be available in the spring for essentially the entire country, except for New York."As soon as April, the vaccine will be available to the entire general population, with the exception of places like New York state where, for political reasons, the governor decided to say, 'I don't think it's good politically.' I think it's very bad from a health standpoint, he wants to take his time with the vaccine," Trump said.Trump's last day in office is Jan. 20. (The Associated Press has previously projected Biden as the winner of the 2020 election.)"Gov. Cuomo will have to let us know when he's ready for it, otherwise we can't be delivering it to a state that won't be giving it to its people immediately."Cuomo said Friday that any review by the state panel would be done concurrently with federal review, and there would be no lag in a distribution timetable.Whenever the federal government is ready to begin shipping doses, New York will be ready to distribute, Cuomo said.“There will be no delay. Our review will be simultaneous with [FDA] delivery."And if New York is deliberately passed over, legal action is to come.In a release Friday, State Attorney General Letitia James said she'd sue if New York doesn't get vaccine doses.“This is nothing more than vindictive behavior by a lame-duck president trying to extract vengeance on those who oppose his politics," she said. "Once there is a fully-developed COVID-19 vaccine, we are confident that a Biden-Harris Administration will provide New York with the proper number of doses so that our state’s residents can achieve immunity. If dissemination of the vaccine takes place in the twilight of a Trump Administration and the president wants to play games with people’s lives, we will sue and we will win.”This article was written by Corey Crockett for WPIX. 2779

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A potentially flammable sea flare washed ashore at La Jolla Shores Tuesday, leading to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Bomb Squad investigation.A person who was walking on the beach near Kellogg Park found the flare canister and took it to the lifeguard station. The witness did not notify lifeguards, who found it about 3 p.m.Lifeguard Lt. Rich Stropky said the flare had not been detonated and still posed a danger, despite the presence of water in the canister. The device appears to be similar to an MK 58 Mod 1 marine location marker. An online description indicates the marker is designed to be a smoke and flames reference-point marker on the ocean’s surface. It is used for antisubmarine warfare, search-and-rescue operations, man-overboard markings, and as a target for practice bombings. The bomb squad reached out to the military Tuesday for guidance in the emergency. Troops from MCAS Miramar were called to the scene to investigate. Shortly after 8 p.m. Marines had removed the device and cleared the scene. There were no reports of injuries. 1089
