The initiative was launched by celebrity chefs to benefit Feeding San Diego’s Month of a Million Meals. Restaurants across the county will donate a portion of their proceeds Tuesday, Dec. 11. "It's the holiday season and giving back is most important to me," said Angelo Sosa, chef and partner of Death x Tequila in Encinitas and Bravo's Top Chef All Star. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Drone video of a Pacific Beach man's search and rescue of his blind pet chameleon plays out like the perfect Hollywood action sequence.Vince Kay Vera says his pet chameleon, "Pete," is temporarily blind due to an infection. "He doesn't normally act like this. He's usually hunting, and hiding, and cruising, but right now he's just roaming aimlessly because he can't see," Vera says.RELATED: Blind San Diego puppy, guide sibling capture hearts around the globeBut that temporary struggle didn't stop the sly Pete from escaping his outdoor enclosure and ending up on the roof of Vera's Pacific Beach condo."So that's all he wants to do all day long, just go straight up," Vera laughed.When Vera noticed Pete was gone, he grabbed his drone and checked the few places he thought Pete could go.RELATED: Coronado gym creates 'March Madness' acts of kindness challenge"I thought it was gonna be hard to find him, but he was just blind wandering around up there you know," Vera said.Video shows Pete perched on the roof, in all his bright neon green splendor. Since there was no roof access, Vera enacted a daring rescue using his drone and some rope. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Driving back from a call in Jamul, two HVAC technicians act quickly to help a driver trapped in a smoking car. The accident happened on Campo Road."It looked like the truck got t-boned by a car and flipped on its side," one of the technicians told 10News.For Kyle Hester and Anthony Ramirez, it was a day they will never forget."Working and something crazy happened, you'll never forget it it’ll always be a story to tell," Ramirez said.Dashboard cameras installed in their work truck weeks ago caught the entire incident on camera."It all happened in a matter of seconds," said Ramirez.Hester and Ramirez pulled up to the crash before firefighters and paramedics were there. Hester grabbed the fire extinguisher from the back of their work truck to try to keep the car from catching fire. Ramirez told 10News, "I would consider Kyle a hero." Meanwhile, Hester said he doesn't consider himself a hero, just a person doing the right thing."I think there were other heroes there that day helping out," said Hester.10News has learned both drivers from the crash were able to get out of their vehicles safely. 1132

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Driving in San Diego is starting to look like Los Angeles - or worse.For many San Diegans, the morning and afternoon commutes are more congested than the year before.Equinox Project, a research group, reported that San Diego drivers spent more than 19 hours stuck in traffic last year. The statistic is 30 minutes higher than 2016.“San Diego traffic wasn't even a thought back in the day,” said commuter Omid Sabet.San Diegans traveled 29 freeway miles per day in 2017, more than any other major county in California. By comparison, Los Angeles drivers traveled only 23 highway miles.“People want to buy houses, rent houses, but they’re getting pushed farther and farther away,” said Mikaela Bolling with Equinox Project.The number of solo drivers dropped half a percent in 2017.“It’s a small decrease but it’s good news that more people are carpooling, biking or walking to work,” Bolling said.Few San Diegans are using public transit or bike lanes but Bolling believes that could change.“There are more bike lanes being put in, so more people may be biking to work. Also, walkable neighborhoods, more people may be living closer to where they work.”  1189
