SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Countywide sales of previously owned single-family homes and attached properties fell from July to August while median sales prices ticked up slightly, according to data released Monday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors. Single-family home sales fell 7.4% -- from 2,144 in July to 1,985 last month -- while sales of attached properties, such as condominiums, fell 8.6% from 1,100 in July to 1,005 in August. Sales of both property types have vacillated between increases and decreases since May. Median sales prices of both property types have risen fairly steadily for most of the year, according to the GSDAR. Single-family home prices rose 0.5% from 7,000 in July to 0,000 in August, and attached property prices increased 1.2% from 5,000 in July to 0,000 last month. ``The 30-year mortgage rates are approaching the historic lows of 2016,'' SDAR President Kevin Burke said. ``Whether that can give the housing market some relief is still dependent on an increase in our supply of homes for sale. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials Wednesday announced the deaths of two more residents in San Diego County due to influenza-related complications, bringing this flu season's confirmed death toll to five. A 78-year-old North County woman died earlier this month and a 70-year- old woman died in July, but both deaths were only reported last week, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency. Both women, who were not publicly identified, had no record of receiving a flu shot and both had additional medical issues, HHSA officials said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspect in the strangulation death of a City Heights woman a half-century ago was behind bars Tuesday following his out-of- state arrest last weekend, San Diego police reported.John Sipos, 75, was taken into custody Saturday in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, on suspicion of murdering 24-year-old Mary Scott, who was found slain at her home in the 4000 block of 39th Street on Nov. 20, 1969, according to Lt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Multiple local and nonprofit organizations around San Diego County will host Christmas meals Tuesday for underserved and low-income residents.Salvation Army San Diego will host its 35th annual Christmas meal, beginning at 11 a.m. at Golden Hall at 202 C St. The organization expects hundreds of volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteers will escort attendees to their seats and serve them a traditional holiday meal.Serving Seniors will also host its annual Christmas meal for low- income and homeless San Diego County seniors, many of whom would otherwise spend the holiday alone. About 350 seniors will enjoy a meal of Cornish hen with Mornay sauce, cornbread dressing, whipped potatoes, green peas and carrot cake, according to the organization. Shane Harris, former president of the National Action Network, will host his second annual community Christmas breakfast at the National Black Contractors Association.
