BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders offered a rare glimpse of their dancing steps and singing voices Thursday evening as they joined tens of thousands of people at an evening gala celebrating New China's 60th birthday.     Red lanterns, bright lights, 33-minute spectacular fireworks, high-spirited songs and dances turned the Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing into a sea of joy Thursday evening. Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, joins the grand gala celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, on the Tian'anmen square in central Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 1, 2009. "The leaders' joining in the festive crowd was of political implication."     "The five-star red flag is fluttering in the wind, the song of victory is sung aloud..." After the dance, the leaders and 60,000 people sang together the patriotic song "Ode to the Motherland".     The chorus brought the square's fervor to a climax and the people had radiant smiles on the face.     Tibetan girl Ngawang Qungji said she was excited that President Hu joined hands with Tibetan and Uygur performers to dance.     "We are just like the members of the same family and celebrate our mother's birthday together," she said.     "There are so many reasons for us to be proud of the great changes over the past 60 years," she said. "I even couldn't help crying when I saw the fireworks portraying a train running on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway lighted the Tian'anmen Square."     Senior Chinese can still remember another touching scene on the evening of the National Day in 1966 when Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, surrounded by a crowd of civilians, sat on the cold ground of the Golden Water Bridge in front of the Tian'anmen Rostrum to enjoy watching the fireworks show with beaming faces.     Behind the close relationship between CPC leaders and the people is the "Mass Line," the fundamental work method of the CPC, which means "all for the masses, all rely on the masses" and "from the masses, to the masses." NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Oil prices plummeted to below 70 U.S. dollars a barrel on Monday as investors were rattled by the sharp decline in China's equities market.     Light, sweet crude for October delivery lost 2.78 dollars, or 3.8 percent, to settle at 69.96 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell to the intraday low of 69.13 dollars a barrel. Global stock markets dropped broadly after China's Shanghai Composite Index dived almost 7 percent, spurring concerns about the pace of world economic recovery.     Oil prices have found support from optimism that a potential turnaround in the economy could boost flagging fuel consumption, which sent the futures up to a fresh ten-month high of 75 dollars a barrel. However, oil failed to break the 75-dollar psychological barrier and fell back to around 70 dollars a barrel as investors were worried that the market might have gotten too far ahead of the economy.     In London, Brent Crude for October delivery tumbled 3.52 dollars, or 4.8 percent, to 69.27 dollars a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

PYONGYANG, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), on Monday attended a grand celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations and the closing ceremony of the China-DPRK Friendship Year.     In a speech delivered at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, Premier Wen said China and the DPRK have understood, supported and helped each other during the past 60 years despite changes in the international situation.     The ruling parties and peoples of China and the DPRK have steadily promoted the development of the bilateral ties, contributing to regional peace and stability, Wen said.     This year marks the China-DPRK Friendship Year, featuring a variety of celebrations and events of exchanges, which have enhanced the friendship between the two countries, strengthened cooperation in various fields and injected new vitality into the bilateral ties, Wen said.     Currently, China-DPRK relations have arrived at a new historic point, he said.     China is ready to join hands with the DPRK to further consolidate and develop the traditional friendship, expand friendly exchanges and cooperation to better serve the well-being of both peoples, and make greater contribution to regional peace and stability, he noted.     DPRK Premier Kim Yong Il, who also attended the event, said the establishment of DPRK-China relations 60 years ago was an epoch-making event and the DPRK is firmly determined to consolidate and develop the DPRK-China friendship.     The events marking the China-DPRK Friendship Year have effectively promoted the friendship and trust between the two peoples, he said.     The DPRK is ready to make joint efforts with China to further the friendly, cooperative relations, he said.     During the celebration, the leaders watched the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" presented by DPRK artists.  

BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer price index (CPI) decline pace would slow down in the second half and the CPI would drop about 0.5 percent for the whole year, Lian Ping, chief economist of Bank of Communications, the country's fifth largest lender, told Xinhua Sunday. China's CPI, a main gauge of inflation, dipped 1.1 percent in the first half from a year earlier, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) figures. China's consumer price index (CPI) decline pace would slow down in the second half and the CPI would drop about 0.5 percent for the whole year, Lian Ping, chief economist of Bank of Communications, the country's fifth largest lender, told Xinhua Sunday    "China might see a CPI rise in the fourth quarter along with the recovery of the economy," Lian said.     He predicted that China would see a moderate CPI rise next year, with the growth pace less than 4 percent.     The Shanghai-based bank said in a Saturday report that China's economy would continue to recover from the world financial crisis in the second half and expand at the rate of 8.5 percent for the whole year.
