Restaurants in Los Angeles County will be open for delivery, take-out and drive-thru services only for three weeks beginning Wednesday in the hopes of preventing the spread of COVID-19, according to The Los Angeles Times and KABC-TV.Restaurants, bar, breweries and wineries in LA County had been open with outdoor seating only. However, officials have moved to restrict all in-person dining as cases in the county have spiked in recent weeks — just as they have across the country.Breweries and wineries can continue selling alcohol in a retail setting."To reduce the possibility for crowding and the potential for exposures in settings where people are not wearing their face coverings, restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars will only be able to offer take-out, drive thru, and delivery services," the county's Department of Public Health said in a news release. "Wineries and breweries may continue their retail operations adhering to current protocols. In person dining will not be allowed, at minimum, for the next 3 weeks."The restrictions came after county officials warned that further action would be taken if the county's five-day average of daily cases rose above 4,000 a day. KABC-TV reports that on Sunday, the four-day average sat at 4,097 a day.The restrictions threaten countless restaurant owners in the Los Angeles area, as well as the thousands of people those owners employ. Several restaurant owners told The Los Angeles Times that the restrictions come just as they were expecting a boost in business for the holidays. Some business owners say they are still paying off renovations implemented to expand outdoor dining. In the last week, California has reported about 11,000 new cases of COVID-19 each day — a record since the pandemic began. 1774
President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he plans on announcing his nomination to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.It does not appear there will be any drama involving the confirmation of a new justice after Sen. Mitt Romney announced earlier on Tuesday he will not stand in the way of Trump’s nominee. Only two Republican senators - Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine - say they oppose holding a confirmation vote amid an election. With just Murkowski and Collins joining Democrats in opposing a confirmation close to the election, Republicans will likely have 51 votes to confirm Trump’s nominee. On Monday, Trump said he is choosing among five women to nominate to the Supreme Court by the end of the week, and is pushing for the nominee to be confirmed by Election Day.On Tuesday, Trump said he wants to see a full bench of nine justices in place by the election in order to oversee any potential election challenges. While the Supreme Court has given a 5-4 advantage to conservatives for many years, Chief Justice John Roberts has occasionally sided with the four liberal justices on key votes, including challenges on the Affordable Care Act. With Ginsburg’s death, the court will give conservatives a 6-3 edge, and gives the party hope of overturning Roe versus Wade and the Affordable Care Act. 1366
RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - Over the past week, two different red flag warnings have plagued San Diego's East County communities. The Cornerstone Therapeutic Riding Center in Ramona was suffered damage from a wind storm Tuesday night. The nonprofit therapy center helps veterans and other patients find healing through riding. Owner Judy Beckett said they did everything they could to prepare for the Santa Ana winds, tying down anything loose and putting fly masks on the horses to protect them. 520
Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden said during an MSNBC interview on Monday that four Black women are among his finalists to become his running mate.In an interview with Joy Reid on Monday, he said he isn’t tied to picking a woman of color, but he is committed to having a diverse administration.“Black women have supported me my whole career,” Biden told Reid. “I have been loyal and they have been loyal to me — and so it’s important that my administration, I promise you, will look like America.”While he did not mention names, Sen. Kamala Harris has been eyed by many in the Democratic Party as a leading vice presidential candidate. Harris told CBS’ Stephen Colbert that she’d “be honored” to be Biden’s running mate."Honestly, let me just tell you something: I will do everything in my power, wherever I am, to help Joe Biden win,” Harris told Colbert.Of note, there has never been a Black vice presidential candidate from a major party. While Sen. Amy Klobuchar said that recent unrest should be a call for a Black running mate, polling suggests that Sen. Elizabeth Warren would be the most popular option for Biden. In a Yahoo poll released last month, Warren was considered the most popular choice of vice presidential hopefuls. 1250
RANCHO BERNARDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Rancho Bernardo woman wants to warn her elderly neighbors to double check their water bills."Evey Borrelli is not part of the roughly 350 water customers who were overcharged when a now-former city employee misread hundreds of meters this past winter," but she did receive an incorrect bill in April of 2017.RELATED: 381
