One-time strangers are capturing the attention of tens of thousands of people on the internet.Their Virginia Beach photo shoot left many people hoping their on-camera chemistry develops into something more.Baxter Jackson says he “was not expecting somebody as beautiful as [her]” when he met Heather John. The nerves quickly settled for Jackson after he saw John for the first time during a “stranger session” photo shoot at Stumpy Lake Natural Area. The stranger session looks more like and engagement shoot to many people. When asked if they felt the chemistry, Johnson said, “If I say there was no chemistry, I’d be lying.”The photo shoot was Sunday and the pictures were posted Monday. More than 45,000 shares and 15,000 comments later, social media is captivated by the images and the idea that this is only this beginning.“I shared them and then I checked back probably 30 minutes later and I was like, 'Oh my goodness - this escalated really quickly!' I FaceTime him and I was like, 'Have you seen this? It’s wild!'” says John. The internet sounded off, saying divine intervention is at work and foreshadowing a future for the two.Photographer Cassie Bailey picked the pair after putting out an ad asking for a single male and female to do a stranger shoot.“I got home and edited [the pictures] and I was just like, ‘Am I ready to share this? What is going to happen?" says Bailey. The social media reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, but some have criticized the close contact of all three strangers during a pandemic. They say they felt safe because they all recently tested negative for coronavirus. “If we all tested negative, I felt that it was completely safe for us to work together for them to be as close for me to be up close to them,” says Bailey.Bailey likely won’t be doing anymore stranger session before returning home to Louisiana next month. As for Heather and Baxter, they say they are not dating - but they do have “at least three dates” planned. A sociology professor says all those images that pop up on social media showing Halloween candy with razor blades and drugs aren't really a legitimate concern. Joel Best at the University of Delaware has been looking into these reported incidents since the ‘80s. That was the decade when so many of these reports started getting attention. Best says since then, there have been zero cases of children dying from eating contaminated treats from Halloween. His report, 480
On one of the islands of the Florida Keys, there’s a small animal that’s causing a big stir. “You know, I love the Key Deer, they’re just, they’re warm and fuzzy,” said Cathy Rhoades, who runs the Florida Keys Wildlife Society. “We do consider them a national treasure,” said Kristie Killam with US Fish and Wildlife. The Key Deer. It’s a little known species of deer that’s native to the island chain. The animal is very small compared to its cousins on the mainland. “The small ones, can get pretty – 2 to 4 pounds at birth," explained Killam. "Some of the tinier ones that look almost like a house cat. Some of the itty bitty fawns." For more than 50 years, the baby Bambi has been a member of the endangered species act. The population declined in the 40s and 50s by hunting. “To the point there was only about 25 to 50 Key Deer left in the wild were the estimates,” said Killam. But they could be removed from the endangered species list. They are recommended on the 3-year work plan for US Fish and Wildlife for de-listing due to recovery. They’re just one of 55 species included in the report. But the tiny animal is incredibly important to Vivian Beck. "They’re just so unique that they literally live among us, or I should say we live among them, and they’re adapting,” said Beck. She’s the president of the Key Deer Protection Alliance, an organization dedicated to keeping the Key Deer protected. Beck thinks removing the animal from the list is premature. US Fish and Wildlife estimates there are between 600 and 800 deer on the island. She says she’s been told as many as 1,000 deer. “Texas A&M said there were 573, so our numbers didn’t match up at all,” said Beck. While the Department of Fish and Wildlife did give us an interview to discuss the deer’s history and biology, they said they can’t comment on an ongoing species assessment. For those that live in the Florida Keys, they just want the assessment to reflect the truth. “That’s the process I would like to see happen, just get more information, more information and refine your thinking based on the information that you have,” said Rhoades.“The Key Deer are one storm and one disease away from total extinction,” said Beck. 2230
